I just got out of the hospital today. This was my 3rd time staying here for psychiatric needs. I have been to a few other hospitals and this is the best place I have ever been to. The staff is so caring and efficient. Everyone has their own private room with a private bathroom, TV, and beds where you and adjust how high/low you're sitting. In the day room, there is a coffee machine and a snack cabinet and fridge that are always stocked with yogurt, bagels, milk, juice, cereal, etc. The groups are always fun and interesting. I loved my stay and I always feel safe and cared for at UCLA.

THE BESTT place to receive services when youre on a 72 hour hold. My admission was relatively quick, probably 3 hours max-from the er to getting in my room. It was weird that they put me in Unit A for eating disorders, but I guess they didn't have room. But after a half day they moved me to Unit B and had a pleasant stay. You wake up at about 8 am, but you can sleep in. You can stay in your room or the dayroom if you want, but the dayroom isn't boring because they have a whiteboard for your name, pronouns, goal for the day, etc. Lots of fun games and shoutout to Archie for teaching me Pounce, sooo fun. They have all the streaming services so you can watch anything the group decides (appropriate ofc). Going outside was fun they have foosball and ping pong. Archie and Andy are GODS at ping pong (I lost 3-21 smh). You have your own therapist unlike other hospitals and honestly the staff really do see you as a human being. You can talk to anyone you feel comfortable with and they will listen. Food wasn't fine dining (ofc) but it was honestly good bc you can choose. You also get an i-Pad for an hour 2 times a day during PRT (staying in your room). Best staff: Archie, Dennis, Angie, Andy, Carol, Brent ( who is COCKY, don't let him tell you otherwise, but hes chill), and David (mr. full of himself). (don't fire them they cool)

I have receive treatment for MDD through the ECT department for at least three years. Drs. Espinosa, Kaufman and Jalil are amazing (though Espinosa can be intimidating at times), as is the entire staff (more names than I can list here, but I am ever grateful). I definitely sense that the team is concerned about me as an individual and has an interest in my recovery. They do a really good job of patient privacy so I cannot say if my experience is unique, but I believe it is probably the norm. I have friends who have sought treatment at other locations and they feel like money mills. I do not feel like they are trying to monetize my treatment here and I think that contributes to my feeling of safety and strengthens my recovery. I also appreciate that my treatment is in a hospital setting where I am well monitored during my course of treatment.

Well I didn't think I would end up here but I did. I was adolescent Unit B for my 5 day stay, and I honestly was allowed so much time to reflect on myself I was able to really begin recovering. For anyone worrying about being committed like I was: this is a good program. You get a doctor, social worker, and an entire team of nurses to help you through whatever got you there, and the atmosphere is supportive. I honestly forgot I was in a mental hospital for a lot of it. My only complaint would be that the group therapy is not that specialized and is mainly focused around exposing the patient to many different social circumstances and allowing them to develop coping strategies on their OWN to make change. This worked for me, but I know that some people are not in a state where they think they can do that and often get left behind. Your stay is WHAT YOU MAKE of it, and it is just as important to sit in your room and critically think about everything as it is to go into the dayroom and distract yourself. Both are important and have their place. Shoutouts to Dennis and Archie (the best nurses prove me wrong I will fight you). Edit: the food is great too!
