Do not use Banfield. Read all about their wellness plan and how it will auto renew even after changing it to not do so and sure enough. Today I got billed for a whole new year when I already canceled it. I hope these guys go under. Greedy enough to manually change my settings. Avoid these guys at all costs

Dr. Greene has been SO helpful to us! We found out our 13yr old Yorkie had a grade 5 heart murmur last month and we are SO lucky she was at the El Toro Banfield (it’s closer to our home). Despite the other location being closer to us, We followed her here because she’s the ONLY doctor that has been not only super caring for Meeko, but also she’s been so helpful with recommending tests and food changes. Her heart is really in her work, and she takes the time to explain things to you. His condition was a complete shock to us, and she took the time to break it down to us so we can understand exactly what is going on. I’m so thankful we found her! I know our fur babies don’t last forever but she has really made this transition into having a senior dog just so much easier, because she legitimately CARES. Thank you Dr. Greene for everything!

My son who lives in KC, MO picked up our adopted pup for us (we live in So Cal) and took him to the Banfield Pet Hospital vet there in KC(that's where he takes his dog) to be checked out before he sent him on the plane home to us. He was given updated shots totaling $200 and was given a certificate to fly. My fiance' and I brought our new goldendoodle pup into be checked out a few weeks later at the Banfield Pet Hospital in San Juan Capistrano, CA since  he had been itching his ears. I spoke to Ana and we went through all of the costs and covid-19 protocols. We made an appointment and went over with Brady. The receptionist came out and told us we could not go in and she would take the dog. We were told we couldn't be with the dog and the vet would come out and speak to us after he was seen. I was upset with this as the dog had gone through such stress, flying, new home, possible ear infection and the dog gets car sick. We wanted to be with him for the office visit. Nope couldn't be done. I became extremely frustrated as did my Fiance'. The receptionist quoted us a figure that surpassed the quote that Ana had given us by $265. We were not pleased and asked for Ana. She assured us that if we purchased the wellness plan through them we only had to pay $48 per month and today's visit would only be $89. Cool okay. Next the receptionist came back outside and said since the dog was 6 months old we could purchase the adult wellness plan for $38 but the cost for the visit was $158. OMG then the Vet comes out with paper work and quoted us a third price that wasn't in the ballpark of the other 2. Can't make this stuff up. We had each persons print out in hand and couldn't believe this. In the meantime our puppy was still back there. They brought the dog out front and I paid $200 and my fiance' paid for the wellness plan. I realize it's almost 3 weeks and Brady needs a check and his last shot so I phone them to make an appointment, well they can't find him in the system, long story short it was under my son's name because he was the one who initially booked him in KC. I tried to book him an appointment to recheck his ears and get his last shot but am told I can not book MY dog an appointment without permission from my son. Yup again you can not make this up. I said to Ana " Hold on, you want me to call my son in KC to get permission to treat my dog here in So Cal?" Yes "You treated my dog 2 and a half weeks ago and took another $200 from me and we purchased a health plan all of which had nothing to do with my son and that was fine?" yes "is this a joke?" No, we can't treat him without permission from your son!!!!! Total nightmare. Run, seriously do not take your dog here. It was a total Sales pitch and scam. Now we are trying to get out of the monthly plan so we NEVER have to go  back.

We have the banfield pet plan and at first we were very happy with the doctor and his service. He has left the practice and my last few experience have not been that positive. Our annual exam and labs they were not very clear in communication and did the bare minimum. I also made an appointment to get my dogs nails clipped because he is very anxious thinking that the vet would have more experience and it was very negative for both me, my dog and the staff. I watched them hold him down and he wasnt too happy about it but he wasn't moving a ton he was just laying there when I saw him. He also got nervous and pooped on them which he has never had an accident in doors before so I was kinda shocked. It was supposed to be 14 but they charged us more than double for holding him down. I'd expect professionals to have more experience handling a medium size dog for a nail trim and explained to them prior to service he was very anxious and that is why we were going there. In addition I noticed brown on his teeth which a.month prior they said looked great and they told me it was type 1 decay and i should get the dental plan. They said from now on for nail trims and dental they could put him under which I think is absurd to put a two year old dog to sleep several times a year. Needless to say we may not continue with our plan.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?

Banfield Pet Hospital | Aug 31, 2020

Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
