Upon walking in the door I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. The room is clean, and in relatively good condition. Standard hotel bed and pillow set is provided. The area has a lot of restaurants within walking distance. The train station, which offers local trains and the Amtrak is within walking distance. There a few different ferries running in the event you want to take a trip to either of the neighboring islands. New London is a typical, quaint New England city.

I had the displeasure of staying at this hotel for a dance competition. When I called to reserve the room, I was told that I had to be there at 4 PM to check in or they may give my room away. I left the competition to make sure I was there a little early, 5 minutes, hoping to check in so I could make it back and not miss any of my daughters dances. When I arrived at 3:55 PM I was informed that there were no rooms available and it would be 10 minutes. 15 minutes later I was told it would be another 10 minutes and that the only person that was working the front desk was going to leave to check on the room, leaving no one there to help anyone else. 10-15 minutes later the front desk person appeared to tell me a room was finally available. I do not understand how a hotel that has a checkout time off 11 AM cannot have rooms ready for 4 PM or why I was told I had to be there at 4 or they would give my room away. I was also informed at check in that they were going to charge me $100 security fee that was not mentioned when I made the reservation. The room was double their normal price for one night and was definitely not worth it. Please look at the attached photos to see the stained pillow and dirty curtains. As a person with allergies to dust, it was ridiculous. When we checked in we just dropped outer stuff and left. We were so tired when we arrived around 10 PM that we didn’t have the energy to complain being that we were leaving before 7 AM the next morning. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and I normally love the brand.

Honestly besides the bed being comfortable I would not stay here again. We only stayed because of a discounted event rate. They put $100 hold on our debit card on top of the price of the room that doesn't clear for 2-4 business days. The room was very clean but we could not control the temperature no matter how hard we tried. Didn't sleep a wink because it was way too stuffy. The elevator shook like crazy. The only perk is that they have a great restaurant downstairs that served excellent food. We were told breakfast at 7 but when leaving at 7:04 the breakfast was still not available which we had planned around. I love Holiday Inn as a chain and have stayed in many. This was one of my least favorite. The hotel needs a lot of updates outside and perhaps a more secure feeling parking lot.

The room was clean and smelled fresh. Linens were crisp and clean. I was staying because of a storm and needing to be near the hospital. I had to leave a $100 deposit for "incidentals" that isn't refunded for 4-5 business days. As far as I could tell there was nothing to be charged in the room so I'm not sure what incidentals they referred to. The staff was friendly and helpful.
