Very small and quiet. Very courteous staff. All you need is an ID with a Brunswick county address or proof of home ownership or residence in Brunswick county. They'll look you up on the county tax records if you own a home. Thank you Ben Franklin. Cheaper than buying books at bookstore. They have a $1 fiction section that is pretty good, I bought three very recent fiction books. No waiting. No crowds. In fact, I was the only customer in there.

The kids can be noisy and no one (hi parents) tells them to lower their voices... So that can be a bit annoying but it's cool that they have their own area. The chairs and tables on the other side are very uncomfortable. Shallotte has very nice, comfortable chairs whereas Leland has banquet style chairs. I didn't use the WiFi or browse the books really. Would like to see more tables added though. I can see how it fills up quickly.

This library is not welcoming for families. I've always encountered rude attitudes when I'm in there. My kids who are 10 and 11 are not allowed to be on the computer unless I am sitting at the computer with them. At the Wilmington library my kids are used to being able to work on homework or play their games while I look for books. One of my children wanted to look at the non-fiction with me and the other wanted to read in the children's area. I was approached and told that I had to sit with them the whole time. This library is so small, there is no need for my children to need me to hold their hand the whole time. It makes it impossible for us to enjoy the library and have the freedom to look at the books we wish to look for apart from each other. I feel like we are being watched like hawks any time we visit this library. It's unfortunate because we live walking distance from it, but pay the fee to have a wilmington library card instead.

I've spoken with many families with children who don't feel welcome here. Children who are autistic have been asked to leave because they were making too much noise. The dearest, most loved, librarian in the place left and the entire soul of the library left with her. Many Leland moms have gone to the next county for programs and resources because this one is bereft of all of them. Looking at the calendar for the month, you'll see why: how many children's programs do they offer? It's very sad.

Storytime will resume in September and will now be Wednesdays at 10am, inside the children's section!
A very great staff. I'm sure they will help you with your donation.
The Friends of the Library lost their building in Hurricane Florence. They are setting up shelves inside the library and you can visit and purchase anytime between 9 and 6.
