I came in a couple days ago, looking for a full suspension in the $7000ish budget range. I was about to buy a bike; the employees I had spoken to were very nice, helpful, and clearly shared my love for mountain biking. Expect this one dude, he always wears a baseball cap and has black hair. I think his name is Sam? He came off as disrespectful, unprofessional and midly passive aggressive. I was super close to buying another Santa Cruz here, since my previous one was stolen unfortunately; but that guy played a big part in my decision to look elsewhere. For example, I asked the front counter about the NICA sale % rate, and he said something like "Well your going to buy it anyway." No dude. I'm making a big financial decision. I got a massive sale from a seperate bike shop, and I ended up buying from there instead. Mikes Bikes was the 3rd bike shop I went to that day. Mikes Bikes is not the best place for quick, 1 day repairs. But they always have stuff in stock, and I've never had a bike come back unrepaired. They straighten derailleurs like no other bike shop, which is very helpful cause I fall all the time cuz u gotta send it. All in all, most of my experiences with Mike's Bikes Berkeley has been good, and there are definitely some stellar employees who work there.

I called and made an appointment for a comp tune up and got a more basic tune up. When I dropped off my bike they didn't say what they were going to do, just told me how much it would cost. To their credit, I wasn't charged for a comp tune up but when I pointed it out they didn't offer to pro rate a larger tune up either. I never got a call or text when my bike service was completed, I had to call and ask. I also had to bring by bike back in because they changed the cable housing of my derailleur cable but didn't retighten the cable so I couldn't shift gears on my ride home. I took it back in and they fixed that for me but it should have been done right the first time.

Bro culture at its finest! Workers are laying and sitting all over the front counter and clearly the bikes just sale themselves. There isn’t much customer attention. My bike didn’t come with pedals cool but when I bought the bike it would’ve been great to ask hey do you want some pedals with your $$$$$ bike. The simple things. I wish I could’ve bought by bike from my local community bike shop. I hate to give my money to a business like this, it feels icky and awful. Also, where are the women workers?! I’ve been there 5 times and I haven’t seen one. But then again I wouldn’t want to be in that environment. 🤮

No better bike shop in the area! Staff is super knowledgeable and willing to discuss pros/cons when trying to make a purchase decision. I've learned a lot just by asking questions to the floor staff and mechanics. Big fan of the 5-year maintenance plan for any bike you buy here - they'll tune it up for you for free any time you come in. Pays for itself in less than 2 visits - highly recommend.

Yes
You have to flag someone to enter the store, then they accompany you inside. Masks everywhere, of course.
Their stock is listed on their website, you can specify which store you'd like
I'm not sure if they do trade ins...
We carry electric bikes from Specialized, Orbea, & Electra. Here is our full line-up: https://mikesbikes.com/collections/electric-bikes. We service the bikes we sell and they can be test driven before purchase. Swing by our Berkeley location anytime!
I have no idea, other than maybe REI. Or somewhere near the campus.
They do layaway payments
Their site should list the hours, or you could look at what's here in Google Maps.
