Semi large park. Clean and well taken care of. You can find parking on the side or somewhere else...I couldn't find the other parking lot. Very scenic, you can picnic. If you bring stuff in you must bring it out. There are no bathrooms around , the only con, but I get it. This park has alot foot traffic, small children, ppl walking thier dogs, nature groups and couples.

Avalon Park is a great spot for an easy hike/walk in the woods you can do anything in the park.🙃👅😋I was thoroughly impressed that there's a great (and free!) park like this hidden on Long Island. The website directed us to park our car on the street, and we luckily found a spot right away. The boardwalk entrance is currently closed for construction so we just followed a line of people walking towards Rhododendron Drive, and eventually found the entrance to the red trail. This did involve a bit of walking on a trafficked road, so just be careful and look out for cars. The section that we walked around was more forest than park. We mostly stayed on the yellow trail, which was doable for my parents who are not the most exercise-inclined people. There were some gentle slopes and stairs here and there, but overall easy enough for me to walk in sandals (which I definitely do not recommend - my feet kicked up a ton of dirt). It was surprisingly quite secluded for most of our hour-long walk, although many of the people we did see were not wearing masks. I'd love to come back here once the boardwalk construction is done, and in the fall for the foliage.

Loved it! Sooo beautiful and a great workout! So many butterflies and the little waterfalls were breathtaking. Definitely a spot you have to visit if your looking for a get away into nature! It's like an escape from reality!

Wonderful experience. We have drove by a couple of times and wasn't sure why there were so many people there at what I assumed was just a pond, but after our trip to the LI Museum we stopped by and glad we did. The preserve was beautiful and we hiked the trails and took in all the beauty and wildlife. We met a ranger there who took the time to explain the history and acreage of the preserve and gave us the tip of the secondary parking lot which we'll be sure to utilize next time to avoid the parking issues at front when it's crowded. There was also a local musician who played and sang while we enjoyed our stroll and watched the geese and ducks. Will definitely by coming back more often.
