Fantastic experience with Old School Roofing for a flashing correction and leak fix that another roofing company left me with. Tony was knowledgeable and professional in getting out my quote and coordinating the work. The repair crew that came was awesome. They showed me every step of the way what had been done to remediate the problem, as well as the before work, and explained why it wasn’t correct. I would highly recommend them and will be using them in the future when the time comes to get a new roof. A+

I am very well pleased with the new roof installed on my Westford home just this week on Monday! Everything that was ordered, was done on time. Moreover, the entire surrounding yard was left cleaner than when the crew arrived. So, if you need a new roof, look no further, as you have found the best! Thanks, Old School Group!

Old School Group was outstanding as they completed a full roof removal and installation for my home. Tony and his team provided updates throughout the process and provided the best price after receiving five different quotes. The work quality was excellent, and they left our home, yard, and attic clean. My wife and I were very impressed by the level of professionalism provided by Old School Group, and we would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new roof.

I contacted Old School Group for a roof replacement estimate. Tony came out to our home within a day, inspected the roof, and gave us an unbeatable price. He was able to accommodate our schedule. He arrived early in the morning and worked long hours alongside his crew. During the whole process, he was very informative and sent pictures of work done during the day, which was great since my husband and I worked. We are very satisfied with the work done. Shortly after completing the roof, a severe storm came, and the roof was put to the test. We are pleased to say not one drop of rain came into our home. Old School Group not only gave us a beautiful roof but, more importantly, a high-quality roof. Tony was very professional at all times, and we would highly recommend Old School Group to everyone.

Questions & Answers

I keep getting leaves stuck in my roof gutters. It’s not easy or appealing for me to climb up there to clean them. What can I do to get rid of this?

Josephine Black | Sep 1, 2019
Old School Group | Sep 1, 2019

Getting leaves stuck in your roof gutters is a common problem. You can ask for help from a roofing contractor for periodic cleaning and maintenance. Another thing that might help is to cut down or trim any tree branches that are too close to your roof. You can also install coverings on the gutters to keep the leaves away.

Frank Toman | Sep 1, 2019
Tracey Martinez | Sep 1, 2019

No, you do not need to wash your roof before getting metal roof installed. Your roofing professionals at Old School Group believe in providing quality service. Our installers start with removing any debris or mold from the roof first. Moreover, soft wash might not prove to be the best solution as it may leave moisture. Our professionals will better guide you after a detailed roof inspection.

How do I know when to repair my roof or replace it?

Stan M | Sep 1, 2019
Old School Group | Sep 1, 2019

A roof generally lasts for about 2 decades hence, if your roof has surpassed its age limit it would be a safer option to entirely replace it. Similarly, if your roof has been undergoing many repairs and still has not been able to perform well, it would be better to replace it. However, for a detailed professional opinion, you can always contact our representatives. Our roofers will do a detailed inspection and share their findings with you.

What parts of a non-flat house roof are most likely to leak?

Tom Jimker | Sep 1, 2019
Old School Group | Sep 1, 2019

Mostly areas such as vent pipe, skylight, chimney, are prone to leakages. This is due to the penetration that is there and hence they are more prone to develop a leak. Not just that, another reason for the development of leak might be a vulnerability of the seal. Similarly, areas such as roof edges, dormers, and roof valleys are also likely to leak.

I'm thinking of buying a used wooden shed. There seem to be small leaks in the roof. Is there an easy way to fix them?

Tony Luison | Sep 1, 2019

Yes, there is. Simply replacing the leaking wooden planks might solve the problem. However, if the leaks are too many, then it might be a better idea to get the roof repaired instead. If you are in Chelmsford, schedule an appointment for a roof inspection today so that our roofer can better guide you about the roof leak repair options available to you.

My contractor wants to use staples instead of nails to install my asphalt shingles. Is that okay?

Deborah Kamma | Sep 1, 2019
Tracey Martinez | Sep 1, 2019

It is okay only if your contractor can install asphalt shingles by using staples correctly and at the same time meeting the requirements of building code that your location has in place. Many building codes do not allow roofing staples. Though it is preferable to get the asphalt shingles nailed than getting them stapled.

What’s the best place to find used metal roofing in Chelmsford?

Brooke Turner | Aug 31, 2020
Old School Group | Aug 31, 2020

Finding used metal roofs is not as hard as many people think. There is a wide variety of metal that can be used for roofing and the used metal roofs are generally cheaper and affordable. You can easily buy them from online marketplaces or the metal market. Similarly, some roof suppliers also sell used metal roofing. I need to get a new roof installed in Chelmsford. Not sure if I should opt for metal or shingle. What’s the better option, especially in terms of cost?

Peggy Lopez | Aug 31, 2020
Old School Group | Aug 31, 2020

Metal roofs no doubt would cost you almost twice or even more as compared to a shingle roof. However, if you plan on living in your home for more than 10 or 15 years then it would be worth the cost. This is because shingle roof is worn out in almost 10 years and you’ll have to spend more to get it repaired. Whereas metal roof is though heavy, a one-time investment.

Can I put a new steel or metal roof on top of my old shingle roof or will that cause more problems in the future? Or is it a better idea to get the shingles completely removed instead?

Jillian Allen | Aug 31, 2020
Old School Group | Aug 31, 2020

That depends on the health of your shingles. If they appear to be okay they can be repaired and reused. However, they may not be according to the size of your new roof or may be weak, in that case, it is recommended that you completely remove them and install new ones. For a better or more detailed opinion, you can always get in touch with our roofing contractor in Chelmsford.

I’m thinking of getting a green roof installed at my property in Chelmsford. Is it a good idea?

Sophia Gibson | Aug 31, 2020
Old School Group | Aug 31, 2020

Green roofs have advantages as well as disadvantages and one should consider both before getting a green roof installed. On one hand, it’s more environment-friendly and reduces heating and cooling costs. On the other hand, the installation and maintenance cost is high. Moreover, the leaks are harder to detect in green roofs which can cause problems. You can only use a certain type of plants and soil and you’ll probably have to get sprinkler installed as well.

Can driveway sealer be used on a roof?

Lee Edwards | Sep 1, 2019
Old School Group | Sep 1, 2019

Although the driveway sealer can be used on a roof, it is always advised to use the ones formulated specifically for roofs. This is because of the composition of the two. Your driveways are made of a different material than the asphalt shingles that make your roof. The sealers for the two are made according to what is best for their composition.

Will my home insurance cover any damage to the roof caused by winds?

Michael Garcia | Sep 1, 2019
Old School Group | Sep 1, 2019

It mainly depends on what kind of insurance did you get and how much the damage is. In most of the cases, the wind damage to the roof is covered under the home insurance. However, it is subject to a number of conditions. In the case where you signed off to remove coverage for wind damage in the policy, your insurance won’t compensate you for any such damage.
