Great hike, I ran it with vibram toe shoes took about 30 min each way. Seems to be a less traveled trail. I would call it moderate with the exception of the cave area which could be dangerous but there's some work arounds that are still steep but bypass even steeper boulders. The protruding bolders are worth every drop of sweat to get out there beautiful ledges and cave area!

The Tunxis Trail is absolutely beautiful, but the caves are phenomenal! Stopped for lunch on Narional Trails Day. Definitely worth checking out.

This was a nice trail for a beginner, as there weren't any particularly steep sections and the trail was easy to follow (as long as you hop over the guard rail first!). The "caves" were really just a collection of enormous boulders leaning against one another, but it was still really beautiful! Lovely things to see along the way, like various mushrooms, frogs, and flowers. Beautiful area if CT as well, with the reservoir just down the road.

Great, challenging skiing. Same goes for the mountain biking. Also, five stars on the cool rocks, but they're not really a cave. King Philip's Cave is a real cave.

You can either park in small lot on Rt 219 just below Hillcrest and enter trail across the street over small bridge (2.5 miles) or farther up East Hartland Road after it turns into Rt 179. You can enter the fire access road across from legeyt road. (1mile)

There is no official campsite, so stealth camping would be the only option.
