I considered it as a very pleasant experience to work with Boston Solar. We were initially considering either Tesla or Boston Solar and it's almost obvious that Boston Solar isn't the cheapest. However we still ended up deciding Boston Solar due to: 1. quality of work, 2. customer service, 3. clear spec of every product that installed, and 4. experienced in every step of the application process. Here is the products included in our project: - REC 365 TP4 (x18) - Enphase IQ7+ (x18, converter) - Enphase IQ Combiner3 - Solar mount from UNIRAC - RT-MINI IIAll product provides clear specs and 25 year warranty Timeline of our project: - 3/8 initial proposal - 3/15 sing and initiate the project - 3/24 onsite survey - 3/28 project design ready - 4/8 MA SMART Solar Incentive Program Application Received - 6/6 solar panel installation - 6/22 inspection - 7/8 inspection approved - 7/8 MA SMART Solar Incentive Program application approved - 7/14 SMART incentive application started - 7/14 system started operating Basically I don't have to worry about each step. In terms of work quality, it is nicely done. The Panel looks great, with a very small gap between the roof. Boxes and wire are all organized nicely. Overall it has very minimal visual impact to my house, which I really appreciate. That said, I believe there are some areas that can be improved. I wish they can provide better visualization tool during project design otherwise I have no idea how it will looks like on my house.

I really recommend Boston Solar if you are considering installing solar system. Mark, my first contact in Boston Solar, was great. He walked through the detail of his proposal very well, from very basic to his personal experience on solar system. His kindly manner is good enough to let me realize "this is reliable company." Following the initial conversation with him, I felt their seamless communication among their team. Thanks to their great assistance, I went through all process without any troubles. Again, I can bet Boston Solar is your best partner.

We chose Boston Solar after talking with a couple of other companies. We had a great experience - the communication was great from both Rick and Meghan. The installation was quicker than expected (half day instead of the full day) and the connection was just approved! Boston Solar makes the process really easy by handling all of the permits, communications with the energy supplier, and the inspection process.

We interviewed several companies, and several neighbors before going with Boston Solar. The process was seamless: clear answers to our questions about manufacture and installation of panels, maintenance, and repairs. From the first on-site engineer's visit, to the final National Grid connection, the process went faster and smoother than we expected. The installation crew was pleasant, efficient, and knowledgeable--and all were pleased to be working for Boston Solar (most had been with them for 5-8 years). The actual installation took from 8am to 2:30pm, and the company connected us just before the New Year. We're lucky to have a house roof facing south with no obstructions--the sun should eventually make us Grid independent.

How much does it cost to unscrew boxes and electrical from side of house to install siding?

Bobby Leighton | Aug 30, 2020

We did not pay extra for the additional meters. Boston Solar and Eversource covered those expenses. We have composite siding which not not require any removal of re installation.

How big are the solar panels you install?

Boston Solar | Apr 2, 2022
Boston Solar | Apr 2, 2022

On average, residential solar PV panels are between 65-75 inches long and 40 inches wide. Commercial solar panels tend to be slightly larger. This is because residential solar panels are designed to be installed on residential rooftops where space is limited, while commercial solar panels are crafted for installation on much larger spaces. How much do solar panels cost in 2021?

Boston Solar | Oct 4, 2021
Boston Solar | Jun 1, 2022

Because each solar panel system is custom designed for a home or business, there is no “one cost” of solar panels. Each installation begins with a customized quote based on several factors, including how much you spend on electricity, how large your roof is, and if you’re a residential or commercial customer. For residential installations (and commercial, if chosen), Boston Solar gives customers the choice between LG and S-Energy solar panels. Do solar batteries qualify for the solar tax credit?

Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2021
Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2021

Yes, as long as it meets certain conditions. For homeowners, solar batteries must derive 100% of their power from an onsite solar energy system. Also the solar battery must be installed alongside your solar installation or have been installed within less than a year of your solar energy system installation. For commercial, solar batteries must be charged by at least 75% or more from an onsite solar energy system. Do solar panels work in the winter here in Massachusetts?

Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2021
Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2021

Yes, that's why Massachusetts is one of the best states for solar year-round. It isn’t the heat of the sun that makes solar panels work but rather sunlight hitting those reactive solar cells. So as long as your panels are getting sufficient sunlight, even during the winter months, your solar panels will be converting that sunlight into renewable energy to either be used in your home or sent back to the grid in exchange for net metering credits. With our long summer days and darker yet efficient winter months, solar performs well year-round for homeowners from Boston to the South Coast to Western Massachusetts, particularly with net metering that can help offset or eliminate electricity bills throughout the year. Winter is also a great time to install solar so contact Boston Solar today to get a free solar quote: 617-648-5601. What is the Massachusetts SMART solar incentive program?

Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2020
Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2020

The Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART) Program provides a monthly payment to homeowners for the energy you produce with your solar PV system. Your SMART incentives vary based on the size and type of solar energy system and what block of the program you are in and are paid directly by your utility. In order to be eligible, your system must be connected to one of three utility companies in Massachusetts: Eversource, National Grid, or Unitil. Is the federal solar tax credit going away in 2020?

Peter Troast | Aug 30, 2020
Boston Solar | Aug 30, 2020

Hi Peter, thanks for your question. The federal investment tax credit (ITC), also known as the solar tax credit, isn't going away in 2020 but rather just stepping down in value. If you install your solar energy system in 2020, the solar tax credit will be valued at 26%. This is the first step down from the 30% value for installations that were completed in 2019. In 2021, it will step down again to 22% for solar installations. And in 2022, the solar tax credit will be eliminated for residential systems but remain at 10% for commercial solar projects. If you have further questions about the solar tax credit or would like a free solar quote, speak to our solar team today at Boston Solar - https://www.bostonsolar.us or call 617-648-5601.
