What a treasure this lovely flower farm is! We were camping nearby in Danville and had to stop in when I saw the acres of lilies! The owner was such a delight, sharing her stories of the hard work she and her husband have put in over the years, and boy does it show. We are stopping by again once we pack up our camper so we can bring some of her beautiful blooms home to New Hampshire.

We made our very first visit to the Vermont Flower farm on Saturday. We were in awe with the gorgeous flowers everywhere! George and Gail were simply wonderful! They were both gracious, kind, more than willing to help, and even offered us (we are both pretty new to flower gardening) helpful advice! George hopped in his golf cart and drove down the hill with his shovel in hand and dug us our Lillie’s right out of the ground! Talk about fresh! I should mention it was blistering hot and humid as could be. You will fall in love with this wonderful place and the owners. It’s our new favorite spot!❤️

They have a HUGE collection of day lilies and have individual flower inside their building so you can see exactly what you’re buying. It was fun just walking around looking at them all and of course I had to buy one. The plants are very healthy and ready to plant.

Vermont Flower Farm truly is for sale. Gail & I are selling the farm oursleves & have it posted on Vermont Land Link & similar sites. We have been in the business for over 40 years & have created a wonderful business which is known throughout New England. We call it New England's best little nursery ....if 4 acres of plants is "little". We will continue to operate it until we find buyer(s) who will carry out our philosophy & environmental awarenes into the next generation which means keeping the land in agriculture. The farm has an excellent supply & plant inventory & we are updating it to insure it is ready to move into. As example, in October peonies arrive & will be potted so they are ready for next spring along with the hundreds we will be carrying over from this year.Currently we are Vermont's largest retailer of potted hostas, daylilies, paniculata hydrangeas, shade plants & pollinator plants. I am planning to put lilacs in a zone 3 area near a dirt road. I will trim them to stay around bush height. I have a few questions 1) What is the best time of year to plant 2) Which are the best breed of Lilac to plant 3) How big?

Plant anytime before the soil temperature goes below 55°although since you mention planting near a road, springtime would be best. If it is a road in zone 3, then snow accumulation is probably involved and care should be taken to plant far enough back so the snow plows don't hit the lilac or cause problems with the snow. Syringa vulgaris are the strongest. 4-5 foot tall give a good start, Watch for rodents at ground level eating the bark.
