I went in person to the office to try to obtain a death certificate for genealogical purposes only. The response I got is what makes people want smaller government. The (apparently) head clerk said that genealogy is a low priority, I could fill out a form but they wouldn't get to it for months. And it wasn't just what she said, but how she said it. Stereotypical "civil servant". Very disappointed.

My baby was born the first week of March it is now the third week of May and still have not revieved the birth certificate! They say they are still working on February births!!! It is a huge problem when you can't prove your baby is yours!! They need more workers and more coffee or something, that's nothing to be proud of Albany! Edit: its now June 8th no birth certificate yet!

I just called and was told that the offices were closed. Had to go to the website.
I recently obtained a copy of my birth certificate. I actually went down in person and it was cheaper $15 and faster..give it to you on the spot. Hope this helps.
If you were born in Albany you can get it by appointment only
If you go to vital statistics they will oblige you.
