We stopped by boat to have dinner at the Red Mills restaurant. I would recommend anytime. We were 4 people and all of us were very satisfied with the quality of food.

Huge disappointment! The facilities are worn down and dirty. Peeling paint, lots of dust, and cobwebs. Even the front door to the lodge is so disgusting you don't want to touch it. The service was a mixed bag. Some were very pleasant and helpful (front desk and coffee shop), and others barely acknowledged you or were downright rude with terse replies to questions (dining room hosts). The food was OK. The only thing great was the Sushi! They have a special Sushi menu at the bar, and the chef there is awesome. The Red Mill was good overall but being closed 3-5 (prime happy hour time on holidays) is a head-scratcher. If you forget anything, you'll have to drive into town because the Harbor store is useless. Mostly barren shelves. It's an OK place to get ice cream when the machine is working (it was out the first day we visited). They didn't even have spoons for the ice cream when we went the next day. Our room location and view were fantastic, but the room itself was gross, hadn't been dusted in a while (ever?), had a plumbing leak, and smelled of urine in the bathroom. Both window units had clogged filters. The "heated pool" wasn't heated, and there was no service at the pool. Overall - this resort is just run down and not well maintained, resulting in buyers' remorse. We will not return.

ROASTED TENDERLOIN! One quick overnight from Burlington - a mini getaway, noon to noon. Upon arrival the front desk recommended that I make a plan for dinner. Looking at the dining options, I went with Ardelia's for the steak. Then I enjoyed a lake cruise, a little nap and headed to dinner at 5:15 (only time they could accommodate a party of 1). Sitting in the massive dining room, completely alone while the live music warmed up, I waited. Finally, my plate arrived and it was beautiful, stunning in fact. Everything was gorgeous and delicious - except!!! My med-rare tenderloin was cooked beyond well done. I asked the waitress to check with the kitchen, "No" she says. I attempt to flag down another staff member - my waitress returns, another "No." At checkout I tell the front desk of my experience, they explain that I should addressed it in the moment. They are right, I should have tried harder. Now, I think about my glorious getaway to Basin Harbor and a truly unfortunate, easily correctable dining experience.

Historic beautiful and over the top accomodations. Service extraordinaire. Worth the price for this high end experience.

We are open for lunch at the Red Mill every day from mid-May through late October. The grass airstrip is usually open all summer, but please file a flight plan with Burlington, in the event that we do have to close it due to weather or wet conditions. We look forward to seeing you!
Basin Harbor Lodging will close 10/17.
Unfortunately, we are closed from the last week of October through early to mid May every year. We would love to have you join us in season!
