We always have a wonderful time here. They have my favorite varieties of apples, the best apple cider, and a delicious apple butter BBQ

We love making memories here and it's now a tradition for our family. Every year we've been going for the pick your own pumpkin and have blast!! The people there are friendly, family oriented. My Kids and grandbabies will continue to make the memories at Shaw's

We pick here annually and always look forward to the visit. We prefer to go early in the morning and on a weekday if possible to avoid the crowds. If you or your family need a lift the tractor runs out and back to whatever patch is in season. Strawberries and blueberries are our favorite crops here. We've also picked cherries, apples, raspberries, and purchased produce. Their weekly newsletter (in season) also gives great intel on the crops, availability, and specials. This is a great family farm that we love to support!

This farm is beautiful! Very friendly and helpful staff and exceptional fruit. Their store offers a nice selection of jams, relishes, local honey and meats. And it's a lovely country drive! Parking is abundant. First left after Getty station best for store. Second 2 good for picking.

What pesticides do you use to protect your apples?

There are over 60 different insect pests, and about two dozen diseases we need to worry about. All of these pests have their own season, and in most cases, we can find a chemical that addresses just that need without harming anything else (that might be good). An example would be using a mating disruption lure for Peach Tree Borer. Because we use 'rifles' and not "shotguns", I can't give you a full list. In a typical season we might use 50 different compounds, but some are only used once on one fruit because their target is fleeting. This is in contrast to how things used to be done when growers used very heavy chemicals to kill everything every week. Our integrated pest management process now is very complicated but it preserves lots of the good bugs in the orchard... like lacewings that eat aphids so that we don't need to spray for aphids; or T. Pyri which eats bad mites. Having said all that, the chemical we use the most is Manzate & Captan (which are disease protectants).
