What I will say is that my mother had some individual staff at Bay Breeze who really seemed to care, but overall we found the whole experience frustrating as a family. Granted, it was during Covid and things were extra stressed, but so were we. Let me tell you just a few things that went on: - They lost almost every single item of clothing she had with her, including her only pair of shoes and her dentures. One shirt they lost even had her freaking name custom printed across the front of it! - Because of the Covid lockdowns, we were unable to see her and therefore it was months later that we even found out she was missing her dentures. They either did not notice or did not tell us. I was able to document that it was Bay Breeze that lost them because it was noted on her hospital admission paperwork that she did not have them when she arrived there directly from Bay Breeze. When I called to ask about it months later when I became aware, they pretty much acted like I was crazy and said "that was months ago" like they didn't care, not their problem. Dentures are not cheap! They could at least have acknowledged it! - Bay Breeze staff had my mother sign a DNR. A social worker who was visiting her later that day called me privately and expressed concern, asking me if I was aware she had signed the DNR and that she thought George Bush was still the president. Yeah, I knew that was her mental state, and Bay Breeze knew that too. I get why they wanted the DNR on file, but it was totally unethical to have her sign it. - They also allowed her to consistently refuse physical therapy, although she was supposedly therefore rehab. In her mental state, again, they should not have allowed her to refuse or should at least have alerted her family that it was a concern, not just shrugged it off and let her decline. - Lastly, when they discharged her home with family, they did so on a Friday afternoon and did not even give enough medical supplies to last the weekend. By Monday, she was back in the emergency room with an infected wound we had no supplies to dress effectively. Nothing says "we don't really care" like dropping off an old lady without even enough clamps to keep her colosstomy bag closed or enough bandages to keep feces from leaking into her surgical wound, eh? Not that it was all bad. Like I said, there were some staff who seemed to go out of their way to be attentive. I also give them serious props for noticing her decline in appetite and how unusual it was for her, and fortunately sending her to the emergency room in time to save her life. Had they not, she would probably have died from an internal infection with in a day or two. I can suck up all of the other bad stuff just for that 1 thing, they did notice a problem when it really mattered. I also do truly understand and sympathize with what the staff were probably going through during the pandemic. I genuinely do appreciate the work they do, it was just that in our case, a lot of the niceties were really lacking.

My sister has been there 3 weeks. Has been requested to have rails on her bed numerous times, still doesn't have them. Has had a UTI we think for a week. Still no action taken. She is blind without her glasses, they have lost them. Food is served on cardboard tray. Think twice before sending your loved one here.

I am currently working at Bay Breeze as the Dietary Manager . My co-workers are an amazing group of people who are caring and compassionate with the residents. The team works together to provide the residents the care they need. I am happy to be a part of the Bay Breeze Team. Kathy

My father was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and Bay Breeze was where we chose to place him. My wife and I were unable to care for him properly at home. The staff at Bay Breeze were wonderful. We were fortunate enough to get him a private room several weeks after he was admitted. Chris was his main nurse during the day and he was very compassionate and caring. With the help of hospice they kept him very comfortable. As with most nursing homes the food was not great but my Dad did not each much anyways. He was cared for very well and I am grateful for the staff and their compassion.

Among others, we offer physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. Physical therapy (PT) examines, evaluates and treats patients with various disorders including musculoskeletal conditions, heart conditions, neurological disorders, wounds, and more. A PT also recommends devices that will assist the patient with function and mobility. Occupational therapy (OT) examines, evaluates and treats patients to afford them improved function in the performance of activities of daily living (ADLs). An OT might train a patient to use medical or adaptive equipment, provide splint fabrication, or perform neuromuscular re-education. OT also includes cognitive retraining associated with ADLs and safety, energy conservation techniques, and sensory deficit compression techniques. Speech therapy evaluates, diagnoses and treats disorders of communication, cognition and language. Sometimes, swallow studies allow for objective assessment of the swallowing function.

The cost of skilled nursing varies depending on where you live, what level of care is provided and what type of accommodations you choose. Most seniors do not usually meet their long-term care needs from any one source. Instead a combination of support private funds, long-term care insurance and government assistance is used to cover the costs. Medicare covers post-hospital, short-term skilled care only and may not cover the cost of ongoing nursing home care. For low-income seniors who meet eligibility requirements, Medicaid might pay a portion of the cost.
