These use to be nice apartments years ago but not anymore. The place was bought out by some large property management company based out of Fort Washington, PA called Altman Management that has a C+ rating by the Better Business Bureau. First off they show you an apartment that is fixed up and has modern fixtures and new carpets. However, this is not what your apartment will look like when you go to move in. I was willing to let this slide as the place was slightly cheaper than other apartments in the area. They also got rid of the individual apartment mailboxes and consolidated the mailboxes into one spot in the middle of the complex. You have to go to the post office over on White Street to get a mailbox assigned. Over the duration of my stay I didn't have much trouble but when I went to move out they tried to bill me for repairs to the already threadbare carpets and little things like oven cleaning. I put aluminum foil on the bottom of my ovens, so they can't get too terribly dirty. That didn't stop York Apartments from trying to charge me $110 for cleaning the oven though. I took the shelves and crispers out of the refrigerator and cleaned them thoroughly but they still said the refrigerator was dirty. After clearing out my security deposit they told me I still owed them money. I've never had a landlord try a stunt like that. Honestly, I'd say stay away from these apartments but any apartment complex that is affordable seems to have the same problems. They're just taking advantage of people with little money. If you can afford it, pay a little more and find a better outfit to deal with.

So I just moved to York apartments because it was reasonably priced and I enjoyed the location. Despite being shown a “show” unit I was never shown the actual unit I was living in. This is no big deal to me personally, now where things start to get fun. I was made to pay extra because it was past half of the month due to them not having the apartment ready. So I had to pay the prorated amount for half of April’s rent and May’s rent upfront. $750 plus a dog deposit upfront. Now that’s fine however this place also offers a “laundry facility.” Now the fun part is you pay for the laundry in the facility in a basement which is never kept up on. The “dog park” that they also advertise is literally a patch of grass that is always muddy and never maintained. Now to today I had spoken to an employee about taking the weekend due to COVID-19 and having issues getting help. I had paid the amount agreed upon and I was told at 9am today to be out of the apartment. Despite having made the payment the 23rd of April. It was pulled from the account on April 27th. So there was a time frame in which it could have been explained that had happened. I would not recommend living here, there will be lies told and things will not be taken care of. You won’t have parking half the time, you will have giant windows in your bedroom that people can see you. Now mind you I never missed a rent payment, I never raised hell with the office. If anyone reading this is wants an example the grass hasn’t been cut in at least 2 weeks. This place will not enforce rules, they will not do anything.

I’m so glad I chose York Apartments! I find the new pet park to be very convenient and I’m so thankful my pets are accepted here. Parking is plentiful and the new updates the community have not gone unnoticed. The office team is very helpful and although I’ve had a few maintenance requests for my home here and there, the requests were handled quickly. Most recently, my air conditioner was not blowing cool air. A technician by the name of Ron was there to quickly address, which I really appreciate.

Is it possible to give 0 stars? It's a wonder how this place stays in business. We found roaches in our kitchen, and a large rat in our storage unit. The leasing office lied to us about our apartment amenities. They want you to sign on the dotted line and will leave you behind should you need anything afterwards. The office staff is rude and incompetent, and violate Fair Housing Regulations. They will do nothing to help you. Walls are thin - I can hear our neighbors sneeze and talk. Neighbors are disrespectful and loud - office doesn't care or do anything, even when the police are called. The manager even blamed me for complaining about neighbors! HA! Parking is horrid, no lights in the nighttime to light the path. They closed the swimming pool down indefinitely in July and blamed it on the pool management company (while the pool management company tells a different story). The same thing happened at their sister properties, yet "swimming pool" is advertised as a community amenity. Otherwise, the location is fabulous - you can walk literally anywhere and are a short drive from the main roads. I'm breaking my lease and leaving....and I can't wait. Don't let these positive reviews fool you, I don't know where they are living, but as for York Apartments, this place is a nightmare.
