We stayed at RV site 3. The water and the electric are FAR from each other and even with a pull through it was hard to get into a position where we could have both. Our site was pretty steep and there was a decent hole in two different places. Playground was newer and we enjoyed renting out the stone shelter.

At the bottom entrance on 11th street there is parking, a playground, a track for walking, a bball and tennis court. There is 1 covered picnic shelter with bathrooms, however the bathrooms have not been open for several years. You will see the Butler Mansion and can walk around it and follow trails behind it that lead up the hill and to the Butler cemetery. You can’t go inside the mansion without scheduling a tour. There is so much history in the park that you would never know about because there is no visible information. No where to get a drink or snack in this area of the park or use the bathroom, so come prepared. As you go up the hill there are some parts of the road that are dangerous and could very well have you going off the road if your not aware or someone is driving fast in the opposite lane. When you reach the top of the hill you will see what used to be a golf course, it is now disk golf and I’ve never seen anyone make use of it. Many of the state parks have done away with their golf in exchange for disk golf. Why? I have no idea! There are trails on the old golf course you can walk. On the opposite side of the golf course is a stone wall with a few picnic tables behind it and parking lot. There are trails all over this area and a road that leads back to a stone lookout. There is a gate at the entrance of this road that is locked at night, so if your into sky watching/ star gazing you won’t be able to utilize what a great benefit that could be for the park. During the daylight hours you can view the town, the state of Indiana and river for many miles at the lookout. Again there is so much history at this area as well but you’d never know because there’s nothing to describe it. I’ve read that the lookout was an Indian burial site before it was the lookout. Further into the park you’ll come to the lodge where you can rent a room, order food and enjoy the buffet during certain hours. They have a nice sitting area inside, a small gift and snack shop and a bar area. Bathrooms as well. There is a pool for hotel guests. Has been out of order this year. Trails around the lodge and a road that leads back to a nature center and conference center with lots of extra parking and more trails. Lots of wildlife. Near the lake are rental cabins, rv and camper spots as well as primitive camping. There are bath houses in good condition. There are playgrounds, seating areas and more trails. Lakeside trails and paddle boat, canoe rentals til 6 pm. Fishing is permitted. Mini Golf. The bathrooms near the lake are also locked and have been for some time. There are several covered picnic shelters nearby. The only places to use the bathroom are at the bath houses and inside the lodge. If your having birthday parties, family reunions or a long day of hiking this can be a problem.

Have stayed at the park a number of times (lodge, cabins, and campground). Our daughter's wedding was held at the park. Some of the amenities of the park were not available this time. Disliked · Check in. Park Associate at the front desk was less than friendly. The associate had that "I have to be here" attitude. It is a shame that every retail business has challenges in getting good, responsible help. Wished the golf course would have still been there as well as the little train up by the mini golf pad.

We took the lake and fossil trails. Both were well marked and enjoyable. There were deer everywhere on the fossil trail and we only saw one other group on the trails during the day. It's disappointing to see much of the park shut down. The golf course and skiing are gone, even the frisbee golf course was overgrown and looked abandoned. If you want a quiet day in the park with no one around this place is perfect. One note though, none of the bathrooms were opened.

A train park in Indiana bought it
It's possible that they are referring to the kids attending the summer camp. When we were there we went to the pool earlier in the day with no problems but the pool area got very full at 4 because the summer camp kids came for swim time. Hope this helps.
Camping sites start at $28/day and up depending on site and time of year
We allow tent camping in the campground at the rv sites as well as in the primitive section. Just depends on if you want water and electricity at your site or not.
