A great place to spend your day. A beautiful trail with outstanding views. Just be sure your vehicle is ready for it.

The is a nice trail in an interesting area. The trail difficulty changes from year to year. Right now in 2020 the south by Alamo mountain is in a more difficult state then normal. If you come in on the north side you can do 90% of the trail with out a problem. There are some parts you need to air down for and some rocky parts you need to take the right line in. But if you did the trail some time in the past it will be harder now. For some people it may be a better option to do part of the trail then turn around and come out the way you went in. But this may change with more rain or trail maintenance. Also the trail is only open part of the year so that is something to check on before you go. There are other trails in the area some easy some hard. The Lockwood valley part of the trail was rerouted some years ago and not all maps have been updated to show this. This is a remote location with no services so keep that in mind.

Discovered this trail back in 1989 while in Gorman. Loaded up the Toyota with the motorcycles & camping gear then went down it that night in the pouring rain not knowing what to expect. What a fun trail! It was kinda sketchy in the mud with a loaded truck @ night, but we had a blast! Been up it many times in the 1990s, always fun. Have no idea what it's like now a days. From the pictures it looks relatively the same.

Lots of up and downs and switchbacks. Parts of trail can be pretty technical and will need seasoned spotters to guide you through. It's a very challenging trail that requires good ground clearance, decent tires, lockers, and recommend rock sliders; and also be ready to accept scratches all over as many parts of the trail are tight with dried up thorny bushes. Fun course if you like to be challenged; definitely not for beginners.

Trail is in great condition. Good ground clearance and 4x4 is a must. 1 Locker recommended, but not required. It's a bit dusty..

Would a stock jeep wrangler make it through the trail?

For the most part. Picking good lines is a must. There are a couple decent ledges towards the end that may give a stock JKU some trouble. Go with a buddy, have recovery points, bring straps and/or a winch.
