This small hidden campground some distance off the main highway is best for vans, mini campers and tents. Quiet; especially mid-week. There is a short spur trail from the campground to the Marion Mountain trail (no bikes). There is a nice viewpoint about 1 mile up this steep trail. The trail connects to the PCT, Deer Springs trail and the San Jacinto summit trail.

Fabulous view from site 6. Lots of hiking and great spots to watch the sunset. I loved the wildlife. If you're there at a FF spot, go over to the trash to find the envelopes for check in and payment.....it was not clear to us from the website.

It’s actually the shortcut to the Marion trail. It’s not only save you the distance, it’s easier to find the parking since no one drives to here, not to say a 5 star restroom which didn’t appear in the Marion trailhead. Next time I will hike from here.

Started here for our hike up to San Jacinto Peak. Absolutely gorgeous trail. One of my favorites of the SoCal Six Pack of Peaks Challenge. Lots of greener you wouldn't expect to see in summer in Southern California. This route was about 14 miles out and back with over 4500 of elevation gain. The view from the top is amazing! A 360 view of the desert, mountains, and ocean, even Catalina on a clear day.

Service is intermittent and patchy at best regardless of carrier, I use Verizon and have had a usable signal at a number of different places throughout the CG but never rely on it being available. Fortunately, one can usu pick up a decent signal just a short distance down the road... I've had multiple bars at Fern Basin, for example.
I was there a few months back I made reservations online

There are a few spots that are large enough for a 35 foot motor home. Unfortunately, the best [=3] is not reservable. The road to the campground is narrow and honestly, I have never seen a motor home there. I'm usually the biggest rig with my pop up trailer and truck.
If nothing has changed they have both reservable and first come first serve sites
Snakes, yes. I saw a rattle snake there myself. Also, possibly California black bear and mountain lion

I don't believe there are any restrictions as to when you can hike. We didn't even see a ranger the 3 nights we were there.
I don't see why not.
The trail does start at the parking lot. Witch is where you want to park unless you have a campsite. But it does cross the campground by campsite 11.
