I believe really going to this type of restaurant is mainly for the experience of just going. First of all waitress was really good and honest she has been there 4 yes and enjoys her job wish I could recall her name. That doesn't matter though she was nice. The atmosphere was nice and quiet comfortable for conversation. The 1st course of cheese and breads fruits was good, saleds good. But the Entres was just ok maybe because my first time there and trying to figure out what I might would like. But definitely need to find a new supplier for lobster tail it wasn't very fresh. Now desert fondue was great we got Bannana Foster was excellent!! All and all good but alittle over priced. $142. for 2 people that didn't include the tip of $30 which I was glad to give for a good waitress. Maybe they should give free tea or coffee or lower the menu prices or give free desert fondue just suggestion. So wouldn't be so expensive. Like I said I think these types of restaurants are for once in a blue moon dining experience.

Experience was very negative from our previous Melting Pot experiences. It was our anniversary dinner, and we live in Holly Springs and came to Durham from previous great experiences there, and negative ones at the Raleigh location. When we first walked in, there was no wait, and we had a reservation, but the two girls at the front took about 6 minutes discussing and debating which table they were going to sit us at. When we were finally sat at our table, it took a little bit for the waitress to come over. So long, that our cheese bowl had been steaming and boiling for about 10 minutes already. Throughout the meal, we felt rushed through each course, and we had to go looking for the server as it appeared that our table was the only one that we had in that section. We had to find other staff to ask for refills of water, but she sure was quick to try and upsell us and get us more alcoholic drinks. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience to what used to be a great restaurant. The staff used to be very personable and talk and joke with the customers while making the cheese and chocolate, and have fun with people when explaining the cooking times of the meats. This visit was completely devoid of any personality of the waitress and while the food was good, we had to seek her out to ask for more potatoes and mushrooms. The portions of the vegetables were significantly smaller than they used to be. The excessively bright lighting, and openness of the tables and location, really takes away from the intimate dining experience that one used to have at the previous Durham location. I get that apparently Melting Pot is trying to be a hipster bar location, but there should be some consideration to people that still enjoy that intimate dining experience which we will clearly not be getting at Melting Pot Durham anymore and it's sad. For that reason, we will most likely not be returning to this location. I'm sure you're raking in money from the hipster Durham crowd left and right, so you don't really care about one negative review, but it should be heard.

Edit: The manager called me and ask my husband and I to come back and they proposed a solution that completely made it up to us, we will be back. We had a reservation for 7:30, finally got seated around 8:30, waited another 20 minutes no one had come to our table so we left, we were really disappointed in this experience as we used to enjoy coming here.

The Melting Pot is so difficult to evaluate. It's unlike any other restaurant. Dining is an experience and the atmosphere is one of a kind. The prices are astronomical. Ultimately, it's a great place to eat once in a while to celebrate an anniversary, promotion, birthday, or special occasion. It's not the kind of place you go to just check it out because you're looking for someplace new to try. There's nowhere else quite like it, so save your money for a special date, bring your bankroll, and enjoy.
