Such a stunning area with lots of natural history. I was blown away by the size. We spent quite awhile here. The path to get to the cave was paved and easy to navigate. The waterfall was more of a trickle when we visited but it was still really cool to stand under and wade through the water underneath. It was like we had stepped onto another planet once we reached the cave.

We have visited Ash Cave many times over the years and it always is beautiful no matter the time of the year. This is one of our favorite easy hikes in the Hocking Hills area. We like that the bottom path almost all the way back to the waterfall is paved and quite level. This makes it easily accessible for motorized scooters, wheelchairs and strollers. The park currently still has the one-way trail sign up however if you have mobility restrictions you can go out the same way you came back in. Otherwise the trail leads you up the stairs behind the waterfall and down the side of the hill. That complete hike gives you such a variety of scenery! Tip: when you get to the top of the stairs there’s a sign that says it’s a 2 mile hike to Cedar Falls. We have actually taken this hike it’s 4 miles round-trip and well worth it. But if you’re not up for that big of a hike still take a left and walk just a little tiny bit and you’ll be able to see the water before it flows over into the waterfall area.

Ash Cave is a beautiful and simple hike that anyone can enjoy. The path to the main event is paved and flat with bridges that cross the stream; it is wheelchair accessible. The cave is quite breathtaking with a small waterfall on its outer edge. This is a great place for photos! If you're able, the remainder of the hike climbs the cave wall (several constructed steps) and back out to the parking lot. There are a few trip hazards along the path, but it is all downhill. There are latrines at the parking lot and head of the trail.

This is my favorite park in the hocking hills. Its just awesome and spectacular. Its cleaner than I've ever seen it and the signs are so much better to guide people in the right direction. I took my dog here today and it was great! Love this place! :)

Ash Cave is named after the huge pile of ashes found under the shelter by early settlers.
you can if they have a leash and you clean up after them
There are bathrooms at most of the trail heads/parking lots.
