It lives up to its name.I enjoyed everything but the ride in to staging area.

This place was very difficult for us to find since we tried using our GPS. Google Maps had us trying to turn into someone's driveway, which was labeled on Maps as Dictum Ridge Trail. You need to look for route 612 and follow that until you find FDR 72!!! It's a VERY LONG, rocky, rough drive up FDR 72 to the trail head (Which is basically an intersection of several trails/roads) I stopped about a half mile in at a pull-off and unloaded the ATV there and rode in (Several folks did this that were also riding). Even on the ATV, FDR 72 is kinda bumpy lol. As for the trails... I guess we were on the right trails? Nothing is clearly marked as to what is actually the ATV trail. We rode close to 35 miles (Round trip) up and down power lines/roads and ended up at someone's house? Feedstone Mountain trail had a MASSIVE pine tree that had fallen, blocking the trail with no way around. You can't go the other way where Feedstone starts because it's heavily marked as private property/no trespassing. The ride was an adventure for sure with a lot of great views. Only found one mud bog, which was disgusting and I didn't attempt because it looked like a frog/snake pit. These trails are absolute hell on your tires/suspension on your ATV. It is extremely rocky, and not the fun kind of rocky. Zillions of 6" rocks and plenty of spots to blow out a tire. We went as far as we could to the left at the staging area and had to turn back because of the pine tree. When we went right at the trail head, we were pretty much on an endless power line trail that went on for what appeared to be infinity and several turn-offs that we lightly explored but didn't want to get lost. We came up on a gate that had been torn/ripped out of the ground by what appeared to be a winch chain, again not marked at all. There are slight remnants of the blue/orange markers here and there, but no signs indicating where you should stay on your ATV. There's also some sort of work going on throughout the trail system with bright green/blue/pink ribbons and posts, maybe they are just marking them for the power company? I also thought it would be worth pointing out that we saw several markers where people had died on these trails (Memorials/etc) which is kinda off-putting, but explore to your heart's content! I definitely do not recommend going through these trails alone - Go as a group. Way too many places where a small mistake can mean big problems.

Passed one leaving on our way in
from Harrisonburg, VA on Rt. 33 for approximately 10 miles. Turn right on Rt. 612 (Peake Mountain Rd) continue be careful to stay on 612 there are lots of roads that branch off, stay on 612 for approx 4.5 miles. Turn left onto Forest Development Road (FDR) 72 just as you pass Gospel Hill Church. There will be a brown sign for Rocky Run Trail as you turn. Continue on FDR 72 for 5-6 miles and turn left on the trailhead access road and continue for about one mile. Very narrow road. Dirt and rock, washed out in places but there is orange ribbon marking the way.
