As far as being a shelter it is one of the better ones that I've visited. It is clean, run very efficiently, has a somewhat attentive staff, with certain staff being aggressively attentive, almost hostile. Apart from what's expected or needed as a shelter, there seems to be an undercurrent of some other kind of agenda and that is what disturbs me about the place.

I lived here twice. First time was from March to June 2018. Second time was from January to April 2019. What can I say? The 6 pm curfew is still the same(sigh), but you now cannot go outside in the yard past 10 pm, when before, it used to be at midnight when they lock the shelter doors. Also, you can no longer hang out in the front, as they now opened the backyard to the clients. Both times I was here at Maple St, I was in one of the private cubicle rooms, which I liked having my privacy in a shelter. But people have told me after I left that they moved all of the womens dorms to the back building of the shelter, which means women no longer has access to the private cubicles, only men do now. That's another reason why still 4 stars. Besides those downgrades since my first time there, the staff was still amazing, especially Dorese(I hope I spelled his name right), Jennifer Werner, Tracy Robertson, Connie Leyva, Donna, Marilyn, and Chris Jones. Those were my favorite staff members working there at the time(s) I was a client. I also had the most amazing case manager; Fabiola Prieto! She was my case manager both times I was there at Maple. She worked really hard to help get my housing, which I'm in now! So I'm thankful for that!

Loved many of the staff when I was forced to stay there. Many have been homeless at sometime in their life so were very understanding. Those who hadn't, seemed to think they understood but really were more bossy and judgemental. They all try hard to make it as easy as possible for so many strangers to live peacefully together. However, there is a high discharge rate that needs to be addressed. Some forget that its the last place anyone wants to have to be and often the only place they can be, the alternative being living on the street or jail. Not all living on the street are bad people, addicts, commiting illegal activities or have mental health issues which all are serious issues alone. Some just have a bad thing or things happen and just need a little help. Forcing them onto the street isn't going to make it better for anyone.

Excellent staff. Help for the homeless. Need referral from third party(safe harbor in San Mateo Or Fair Oaks Community center in Redwood City) supportive to those in need especially dual diagnosed and veterans.

Yes they do but at certain times. I suggest you call for drop off times.
The shelter does accept donations but suggest you call to find out when the drop off times as well as any types of donations you wonder if they will be accepted.
they have their own closed off cubicles. almost like a room in a room. they are nicer than they sound
They have to be referred by a Core Agency, the closest is fair oaks community center.
Even you go there, unless they happen to be outside, you wont get any help, privacy issue again. I guess you'll have to wait for your friend to contact you.
If you contact them directly, you can have them meet you out front to go somewhere else but you cant call the shelter due to privacy concerns and the shelter wont tell you if anyone is staying there for the same reasons
