I go to this waste disposal a couple times a year. The folks that work here are always professional and friendly. If I have to wait at all, it is a very short wait because they are organized. The whole process here is easy and streamlined- I greatly appreciate this service. Thank you!!!!

Always an easy and pleasant event and I'm so glad there is a safe way to get rid of hazardous waste.

This place is great. The staff person was efficient and friendly. He took the items out of my trunk for me and explained where to go to drop off my electronics for recycling. There was no line and no wait when I arrived. Couldn't have asked for an easier process!

This place is wonderful. Every time I drop off a box of hazardous chem waste, I have had friendly, efficient staff take care of it. As I am hugely concerned for our precious environment (which is more delicate than we knew and is just now in a state of imbalance), I am so very grateful for a facility that responsibly and safely disposes of chemical waste.

Not any more.
We can accept hand sanitizer, but there are limits based on a number of factors. The best thing would be to call 800-646-1431 for more information.
9/4/20 - As of today, Friday, September 4th, the HHW program is no longer requiring appointments for waste drop-off at the HHW facility. You may visit the facility any time during our operating hours of 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Saturday, excluding major holidays. Please be aware of possible service delays as we are operating in a different manner in order to keep the health and safety of our employees, our customers, and our community as our highest priority.
Yes, as of June 27th, they are open M-Sat 7am to 2pm, by appointment only. See main page for link to appointments.
No, Central San is not able to provide pick-up service for hazardous waste. One alternative would be to seek assistance from a neighbor or family member who could provide transportation. Keep in mind that there is a transportation restriction of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of material.
No I don't believe so I know the one in El cerrito does on Schmitz ave
No they don't take any type of home appliances only old and unused fluids e.g. paints, thinners, bleaches, all purpose cleaners, grouts of all types, adhesives, glues, wood varnishes, garden, auto, they even have tests kits for swimming pools, also the cleaning agents for pools the list goes on. These were just some of the items off the top I figured I'd type to give an idea as to what this place takes in and collect. To get rid of an old microwave either do a couple of things. 1 set out side with normal garbage recepticles, 2 was or take it to places that recycle, they shall either take the item or point you to exactly where to take the oven.
If the substances are not poisonous place in plastic bag and put into trash
Yes, assuming that it has not been contaminated with other substances, we can empty and return your container.
Yes, the Reuse Room is now open Monday – Saturday, 7 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
The most important thing is that any waste is safely contained. You can see tips on how to package items on our website: https://www.centralsan.org/post/packing-and-transport
No. Use your local recycling service. You can usually dispose of vhs tapes in your home recycling bin.
You could take him to the Republic Services in Martinez you could dump the tree there
Yes, We do accept automotive batteries.
We do not accept treated wood waste. A couple of potential disposal locations would be Norcal Waste Systems in Vacaville and Waste Management Altamont Landfill in Livermore.
Yes, we accept flourescent tubes. You can find more details on what we do and do not take on our website: https://www.centralsan.org/post/whats-acceptable.
If you are referring to disposal of household hazardous waste, Central San doesn't provide a pick-up service. You would need to make an appointment and drop-off the material at our facility. There is a maximum of 15 gallons or 125 pounds of material per trip, so you may need to schedule multiple appointments. If you are refering to a large trash pick-up, you would need to contact your solid waste provider.
Yes, we accept paint and propane cylinders up to 5 gallons. There is a limit of 15 gallons or 125 pounds per trip, and appointments are required for drop-off. You can find more information on what's acceptable here: https://www.centralsan.org/hhw
Yes. We accept disposable propane cannisters as well as 5-gallon refillable tanks.
We place re-usable items in the reuse room, where they can be picked up for free. The selection depends on what materials have been dropped off by other customers.
Yes! This is where I recycle my used motor oil and filters for my 4 cars.
They take cleaners, pesticides, automotive products like oil and antifreeze, fertilizers, etc. Most chemicals that a homeowner would have they can take. If you have something that may seem odd, you should probably call and ask them. Their hotline number is (800) 646-1431.
You pull in give them your driver license the ask what you have & they unload it you dont have to get out of your car
15 items per day is their request. Service is free to drop off hazardous waste. You can also pick up grey water for your garden or yard here for free.
The amount IS based on the net volume of all of your waste. The maximum is 15 gallons. If you have 30 half-full 1-gallon cans, that would be 15 gallons of waste.
