Was in the area and went on a whim with my friend and cousin based on my friend hearing good things about the place. Demoed various headphones and some listening rooms with sound system setups for 3 hours. My Apple Watch’s heart rate monitor warned me I was stationary and my heart rate was elevated. That’s what Focal Utopias can do to you. Had such a great time talking to Graham the manager. Absolutely great experience being able to learn from someone so passionate about music, audio, and the industry. Leo the dog is also very adorable and easy to fall in love with. Definitely recommending this place to others.

They wouldn't allow demo of the headphones. I get that there is a covid situation, so I asked why not use some safe sanitation wipes? One of the reps just said "Yeaaaaah, I'm not about to do that for 3 thousand dollar headphones." Okay, so from a business perspective, you have a customer driving in from who knows how far and is ready to spend that much on headphones... and you can't even sanitize the headphones so that a customer can hear the headphones he's trying to buy? He kept saying those long "Yeaaaaahs" and it was really annoying. Even if I couldn't demo it, I get it, it's their choice... But there was zero hospitality here.

Just went into this store today. I accidently made an app. to listen to some speakers in the SF store but the Berkeley location took me in and took the time to set up a demo for the bottom line bookshelf from Paradigm. The demo was set up in a sensible way, pairing the $320 bookshelves with an integrated amp that makes sense money wise. I am hoping Music Lovers will get more items in in my price range or even better, my situation could improve to upgrade to higher level stuff. In this day and age an acutal HiFi store is a rarity and I am glad to support them whenever I can.
