This was a nice stop on the Elkhorn Scenic Byway. The train ride is nice, but we were left in the dark about the history. The volunteers were very nice, but they should have training in the history and use the PA system to spread that information.

I really want to give this more stars, but it's just not 5 stars. It was an okay experience. The train ride is $25 round trip. However, I was expecting more on the ride. There was zero talking by the employees. It would have been 100% better if there was a pa system throughout the train ride explaining the history. For example there were 5 super old graves along the mine tailings. Who were they? Were they miners? There were tailings everywhere. How much gold came out of there in the day? There was so much I wanted to know! The little Depot was alright. The gal running it, Kim, (I think was her name)she was wonderful and very accommodating. The little layover in Sumpter was cool. There was a corn dog stand that had one of the best corn dogs ever!

Take the train. Tip the rail hands. They donate their time for our friends and family to enjoy a part of great history. Amazing crew and people there in Sumpter, OR.

Given the depot is in the middle of nowhere (i.e. Sumpter), it was a surprisingly good time. The steam train is a hundred years old and kept alive through volunteer labor. On our trip, our train was attacked by bandits after the gold on the train which was defended by sheriffs in costume. Our four-year-old loved it. There's a limited shop on both ends and everyone was respectful of Covid. I don't know if the bathrooms are wheelchair-accessible but the train itself is. I can totally recommend.

Absolutely
They might be. I'm not sure. If it is a service animal then yes. But I don't know about pets.
It is 5.1 miles between Sumpter Depot and McEwen depot.
