I'm from New Orleans but am in Anchorage frequently. As such I never bothered with The Gumbo Shop. A big mistake. Their food is excellent and from this point forward I will be a regular. Great vibe and wonderful food.

Eclectic place in an old house. Good New Orleans menu. Fried okra was good, very hot and lightly breaded. Jambalaya was good with lots of the protein items, and just a little spicy. Local beers, fast service, lots of small tables (at least where I sat). Free parking next to the restaurant.

Solid little spot. We didn't expect to find Cajun food so far from Louisiana and New Orleans but we were pleasantly surprised. They had everything, but I got a bowl of red beans and rice with andouille sausage, jalapeño cornbread and sweet tea. It was great. Fast, delicious and not expensive.

Delicious food, large portions, fun old country music. Our table had the BBQ pork po’boy, the blackened catfish, and the angel hair pasta with sausage, chicken, shrimp and spicy cream sauce. A tip from me: try their homemade lemonade, served in a small mason jar.

I love this place. They usually have a good lunch special. Although you can't really go wrong with the main menu.

Authentic Cajun would have Gator, Boudin, and crawfish etouffee on the menu....Will these types of entrees be added in the near future?

No. For the quite reasonable prices, and delicious quality of the menu they offer, I am more than satisfied with "less authentic" Cajun, apparently, and most of their clients are as well. Jambalaya, poboys, gumbo, and crab cakes are delightful.
