Beautiful county park that features a slough and lake that also has great short hiking trails that's perfect to walk your dog or go for a jog. Multiple trails following the slough and through an oak hammock. Plenty of wildlife as well.

You can never go wrong with going to a beautiful nature reserve here in Florida. Just be careful for any snakes or alligators. However the beauty is everywhere in Florida. From sky to land to ocean. Beauty is among us everywhere. This park is one of my favorites.

Very happy to find this piece of untouched nature so close to the city. Saw lots of animals on an hour long visit after work during the week. I will definitely be back. Only down side is that it had rained a lot recently and the ground was quite mucky, itβs my own fault for wearing sneakers and not being more mindful of where I was walking. Not the parkβs fault. Plenty of parking and got a good walk in π

This place is a little hidden gem. There is a lot of wildlife here and great restoration efforts! Not a lot of parking. Walked end to end and around in an hour. Good national spaces.

Signs should be put up in areas where lawn mowers are not wanted
Historically, locals called the area Skeeter Drain. Sarasota County acquired the land in 2001-2002 and held a naming contest, accepting public nominations for an official name. From the list of names submitted, the Board of County Commissioners chose Red Bug Slough Preserve as the official name of the site prior to the grand opening in 2007. Red Bug Slough is the name of the water feature that runs through the preserve.
Red bugs are real. I have not seen there. Great spot to view wild life.
Much of the in fill vegetation was invasive and there were some folks living there in various seasons
