I would say the bridge itself is not too special or beautiful, but it offers a great view of the river and it is clean and well kept.

Gorgeous walk on this bridge over the Charles River. The bridge has a separate pedestrian walkway which is separated from the cars with a guard rail. The view of Boston is spectacular. Suggestion: go around sunset time.

Located by the east-end of Charles River Esplanade, the bridge connects Boston and Cambridge. On the Boston side, nearby is the Teddy Ebersol's Red Sox Fields of the Boston Softball Leagues. The subway station Charles/MGH is at the foot of the bridge. There is pedestrian walkway per direction. The train is running in the middle section along the bridge. On the Cambridge side is MIT campus, and offices of companies. To the west of the bridge is Harvard Bridge, one can make a on-foot tour to cross one bridge, then follow trail along river bank and come back on the other bridge - must bring water along on a hot day.

Probably no but you can walk on it it has dedicated walking track
they are mostly decorative.
Yes, but vehicle traffic is only one way (Cambridge into Boston)
Very bad winters, salt water and slow union workers along with a govt. contract forget about it.
