I went here in 2017. It was horrible. The staff was mean. They didn’t clean my wounds. The psychiatrist there said I was ‘wasting resources’ by being there, and when I showed symptoms of borderline personality disorder she brushed it off. It was horrible and I hope this place gets shut down. I don’t understand how this place hasn’t been investigated. My first night there the staff refused to give me a blanket.

My experience with Peace River Center Bartow is very bad. Prior to Thursday, November 24, 2021 I haven’t even heard of this place. However, when a family member began exhibiting serious mental challenges there was no time to do any research as to the best place to seek help. So we did what we thought was best; we called 911.The responding police department took the patient to Peace River Center in Bartow the evening of November 24, 2021. I felt relieved and optimistic because I assumed that our family member would get professional help. To my surprise we received a call the next morning that the patient has being discharged. I pickup the patient and immediately realized that the patient was in no better mental state than the previous day. The patient was angry and hallucinating, but worst of all someone at the center had identified the family member that wrote the statement authorizing the police to take the patient to the Center. The patient is now furious with this family member. It is unbelievable that an institution that is supposedly accredited could be so irresponsible I later learnt that no medication was given. There were no recommendation for therapy or follow up. My conclusion is that they assumed that they wouldn’t be paid for their services. Except, the patient has health insurance and would have paid for any service rendered. Peace River Center should be ashamed, especially since they are a not for profit organization. After reading the reviews I am appalled the this place is allowed to remain open.

Run! Don’t walk! Beds bugs, over 25 bug bites in a 4 day stay. They asked me my allergies - Gluten, even having that knowledge they still gave me regular meals. I wasn’t given meds for sleep because a mistake was made on their end. Through sleep deprivation, bed bugs, and hunger I felt nothing short of being tortured. I had severe PTSD upon leaving. During my stay my life was threatened by one of the other patients. Nothing was done about it. It was so cold, I explained I needed an extra blanket because I get pneumonia easily, one of the workers said “when you get pneumonia we’ll treat it here”. Out of the entire staff there may have been only 2 or 3 who actually cared. It’s just so sad to see that this is the type of place you are supposed to go during crisis and get better but instead I left feeling 100 times worse. If you love someone don’t send them here!!

Ok.... 1. I was Baker Acted 2 to the Bartow Crisis Stabilization Unit. Both times when the dr said this is not the place for you and let me go in 24hrs one time and 18 hours the second time. I was rushed out with about an hours ride home and no transportation. First time they let me out and said my insurance was going to send someone for me but I had to hurry or i would miss them. After they let me out i could not get back in the building and my phone was dying. No ride ever showed and there was no answer from the only number i had in my phone which was the crisis line. I had to uber home over an hour away at nearly 85.00!

I can have our Crisis Director reach out to you directly regarding our quality of care for children at the CSUs. The director has done an awesome job since he has taken over.

Hi Jason, yes we take Wellcare Medicare & Medicaid, Healthy Kids, but we recommend all potential clients contact their insurance company to verify their policy is contracted with Peace River Center. Here is a list of our current insurances: https://www.peacerivercenter.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/Insurances-Currently-Accepted-February-2019.pdf. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
Hi Katy, males and females are on the Stabilization Unit together, but women would be in bedrooms with other women, men with other men; however, males and females are in groups, common areas, etc. together. There is a children's side separate from the adult side. The same applies to the youth side of the Stabilization Unit--males and females are in separate bedrooms but are together in the common areas, group sessions, etc. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Hi Katy, in our Crisis Stabilization Unit, individuals can stay up to 72 hours, however, if additional treatment is needed our care team will determine if a longer stay is required. Some people elect to stay longer on a voluntary basis. If you have any additional questions, please let us know.
Hi Yvonne, in order to be admitted to the SRT, one has to be Baker Acted and found by a court to meet criteria for short term residential care; the order is 179 days. In other words, we cannot admit anyone to the program without a client being held in a receiving facility and being court ordered to the program. Once the client is court ordered, we will assess the client to gain information from the individual and determine if he or she would be appropriate for the program. We are unable to accept any clients with open criminal charges. The clients also have to be able to function on their own in the program and have the cognitive ability to participate in groups. If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thank you!
They will probably want him to go in so they can properly evaluate his situation.
