I would give it 5 stars but I am not about the exploitation. There is a fee of $8 but I didn't pay. No one should have to pay. I didn't go into the museum because... Why?!? Anyway. It is stroller safe. There are a few bumps but that is just normal wear and tear on the concrete.

Ought be a UNESCO World Heritage site. Very well maintained. Be respectful. Don’t be a nuisance. Summer solstice is a very busy week. One of those fascinating places, whilst attributed to the Adena culture, no one really knows who built it, exactly when or why. The sophisticated celestial attributes of the site should make us think carefully about human existence.

Amazing to stroll around this ancient monument and ponder the people who built it, the events that took place - lost to time. The site is very well maintained and nicely presented. A small museum, gift shop, restrooms, and a picnic shelter are all available. The observation tower is currently closed for repairs. Free admission. Parking is $8 per vehicle.

This is a must see for anyone interested in history. The serpent mound is our Stonehenge. Indian guides brought explorers to this location in 1840. It was an agent religious site and the serpent aligns with the solstice and equinox. Be sure to watch the film in the small Museum. This site is good for folks with mobility issues because the path is paved. Be warned your GPS may not work in this area. Be sure to write down directions how to get there and how to get home.

Is the mound built by the Hopewell indians?

McKenzie Ryan | Jul 27, 2018
James Lechner | Jul 28, 2018

The Hopewell Indians DID enhabit this region. There are Hopewell mounds not far from there (in Chillicothe) and by Paint Creek. Ford Ancient is about a 45 minute drive from there. North and East, North, and North West of the area. The area is rich with ancient and early American history. Early spring is a good time to check with farmers in the area to walk their fields and possibly find your own artifacts. I grew up in this area and have many arrowheads and tools that were unearthed in my farming days. An Excellent day trip to ANY of these things.

I am pretty sure is open... we loved the atmosphere at this site, very well kept. If only people visiting could take the time to read the clear posts about the natives. Respect and gratitude goes a long way.
