Myself and my kids went for a hike with friends to this place. The valley is quite beautiful with the Golden poppies at the foot of the mountains. The hike was an easy one even for the kids. The weather was hot on that day but yet it was windy and shaded at places, which we enjoyed very much. There are few benches on the way to sit and enjoy the view, also to take a quick rest if needed. We took more than 2 hours to complete the trail loop stopping for snacks and the view once we reached the top. All in all we all thoroughly enjoyed the hike.

Nice open area (rare and attractive in Bay Area). After the grasses had turned green, it is more beautiful.

Lovely place. Starts with a lush open meadow. Then you get great vistas of the Coyote Valley from higher up the trail. Great single track, undulating, with pockets of shade.. Currently lots of wildflowers.

Coyote Valley Open Space Preserve is hands down one of the most beautiful Open Space Preserves in the Bay Area. The parking lot on the location is a bit small, so make sure you reach a bit early so that you don't have to wait for a spot. The valley is mesmerizing and the views are absolutely stunning. You can see cows grazing in lush green meadows. The place is awesome and I'm short of words to describe the natural beauty. The trail is a one way trail and has a bit of a gradient. Must visit place in Bay Area!

There is no reservation needed to hike the preserve, and parking is free. Only a select few of our programs require registration - you can learn more about these events at https://www.openspaceauthority.org/visitors/events.html. Thank you!
Yes, parking is free. We recommend visiting our trail conditions and safety page for updates before planning your visit. There you will find basic rules, (such as no pets allowed) any trail closure updates, as well as the types of recreation you can enjoy at our preserves. https://www.openspaceauthority.org/visitors/conditions-safety.html
No dogs. They have signs in the parking lot and just before you get to the trailhead.
