La Quinta Inn by Wyndham San Diego Vista

The hotel was dumpy, although undergoing remodeling. My room was old. The shower was nothing I would use. It had moldy caulk. There was a homeless guy sleeping up against the wall around the corner. There were many cigarettes butts in the parking lot. I noticed many of the hotel residents were standing outside smoking, but there were no ashtrays. I went across the street in the early evening and encountered many boneless people picking through the trash. I only booked here because all the other hotels were $800+. It was a holiday weekend, but I wanted to attend a friend’s wedding. I have stayed at Many La Quinta hotels and I have to say this was truly a dump. Don’t go there!

Stay there ONLY if you smoke, do not mind smokers next to your door or bottomless vagrant guys sleeping besides it. This was supposed to be a smoke-free hotel, but it was not. My neighbor was smoking all of the time on the balcony. I notified the staff three times within a few hours. He was asked to stop once as far as I am aware. The guy still smoked multiple times overnight, early the next morning, and throughout the day. Apparently, the staff has no power to do anything. On the other hand, how can it be possible that a bottomless vagrant individual sleeps day and night a meter away from someone´s hotel room? That´s terrible! There were also unwanted noise, low water pressure, and not so fast Internet, but those were the least of the issues.

Positive: The rooms were recently updated and were very nice. Love the wood floors in the room. Negative: The floors could have been cleaner, and one of the guests outside our room had a very loud car that they started up each morning at 5am.

This gets 1 star for spelling "La Quinta" correctly on the sign in their lobby. No trash can, no refrigerator, and no "do not disturb" sign. I was willing to stick it out until I laid down and, to my horror, I discovered mildew at the head of my mattress. I called the front desk to request a different room and they had none available. They didn't even offer to help me find another hotel. I've stayed at other Wyndham Hotels locations before and they were fine. This one sucked.
