Mosquitos were pretty bad, though it was mid July. Dispite that the stay was nice; lots of wild birds to watch, bugs for the backyard entomologist, and a couple trails to enjoy. Bathrooms and showers were very clean, and the water didn't taste weird here. Very close to John Day, so shopping was fairly easy for anything we needed.

Gorgeous grounds, stayed here first half of May (before insects/mosquitoes get really bad in June and July), Spring aromas from all the flowering trees were everywhere & delicious!!, sites well spaced, sites have electric & water (NOT full hookup as someone else mentioned in a review), most have varying degrees of privacy bushes/hedges on one or both sides of each site, the highway settles down at night and shouldn't keep you awake in the wee hours (my husband is a very light sleeper and he had no problems), cottonwoods were dropping tens of thousands of those golden yellow STICKY shells/husks so those were all over the ground and sticking to your shoes and going in the motorhome (ah well!), dump station was good, but no potable water at the station (potable water = spigot at each campsite), bathrooms were clean, showers have 2 problems: WATER WREAKS OF IRON (you can smell it, but the water is not discolored & it didn't leave us smelling like iron), AND the same glob of hair stuck to the shower wall was there for 3 days, at least. And a few other things that should have been cleaned up on a daily basis. Gross. Otherwise, a MAGNIFICENT state park :-)

This place is beautiful! My family was on a state park trip and stopped to check it out. The fall colors were so pretty, and there were plenty of leaves on the ground for my kids to have a blast with. It's dog friendly and there are benches all along the water to sit and enjoy beauty and peace, except for the highway right behind you. The only reason I made it 4 stars is because the bathrooms were out of order, I watched at least 4 people stop for it besides us. Anyway, I would definitely come back and try to stay at the campground sometime.

It is so beautiful in eastern Oregon. One of the many sites to visit on your way up to John Day Oregon. Beautiful area to come and check out

I didn't see anything that would preclude being able to tent camp at any site. In fact, some would be very nice for tents.
Rarely a problem, if there was a problem about Dayville has a more primitive RV park also on the John day, Long Creek has a RV park with full hookups 30 amp, and Prairie City has one each one is about 25 miles further which ever direction you go
Best if you check with the park. It would seem likely that they would.
$26, water & electricity. First come, first served.
