The staff here are inhumane, unethical, and worst of all uncompassionate to the patients and family here. One nurse in particular, Michelle was rude and condescending to my family and I. She shows no compassion towards how difficult the entire hospitalization process is for the family and it almost makes me think she uses restraints as a way of false imprisonment. As a healthcare worker myself, I am well aware of the rules and limitations to the use of restraints. She had my loved one in restraints for over an hour and a half for an incident that occured earlier in the day. When I called to address the issue she was rude and not understanding and refused to allow my loved one to have visitors. If you love and value your loved ones, do NOT send them to Kaiser. They will treat your loved ones like prisoners and when you try to advocate for them they will gaslight you into thinking it's the right thing to do or the "rules" when it isn't.

Staff treats patients horribly. I was constantly threatened by staff with taking more medication or being forced to stay for a long time just for crying or speaking or not being able to see or speak to my parents again. Head doctor there purposely tried to invalidate me and push me to act out although i was in a lot of pain and being extremely calm. They need to shut this place down. It is absolutely horrendous how they are treating people here. I was forced to take antipsychotics for no reason at all and got tardive dyskinisia and akathisia. When parents called doctor out of fear of my extreme symptoms, never got a call back.

While it is always stressful having a family member experiencing a crisis, I felt a lot better about the situation after visiting my family member on several occasions and witnessing the level of professionalism and compassion he was receiving. The facility is clean, staff was polite, respectful and caring and the patients seemed to form an in house “family“ that was very supportive of each other’s recovery. I don’t feel I could have asked for a better facility for my family member to recover in and I was very touched by what I saw. I’m very thankful to all of the staff there.

At no point did I feel like this was to help me only to punish me. Very few of the nurses here were friendly and polite. Those that were were all that kept my spirits high in such a horrific place. I had told a joke to one of the nurses. His responce was "mom told me not to lie" and that my joke "was not funny" I left the first meeting with what I can only describe as my warden feeling that it was a punishment that I was there and that he had no intentions to keep me there. According to the patience rights pamphlet I was to have access to private phone calls. This is in the format of a payphone with a line about one foot from the body of it forcing you to be able to kiss the phone the entire conversation the privacy consists of other patients being able to answer your phone calls as the payphones are in the dining room. The toilets have no seat covers forcing you to sit on the cold bare porcelain and the door to the restrooms in the rooms consist of workout mats with magnets in them they don't go top to bottom only covering your privacy about 50% the feeling of this place felt very prison like and not like a hospital that my paid for health insurance is trying to help me out of the depression that put me in there. Kaiser should be ashamed of this facility. I left feeling ashamed that I was there and need to undergo therapy sessions for the things I saw and the way I was "treated."

Are the "visiting hours" counted as when I can call the patient?

unfortunately with the covid. there's no visiting. as for the calls. the only time you wont get a hold of a patient is when there in sessions. or therapy ex. but for the most part you can call them. they should have two phone numbers you can use. it's not direct to the individual your trying to contact. but other patients or staff will get the phone to who you need to talk to. hope that helps.
