Don't make the same mistake like I did, twice: Take the ferry from 39 to here first then bike back! Weekdays afternoon you may spend 2 hours waiting in line for ferry with endless bike front of you, and the cabbies with the bike rack will laugh at you and offer their pricy services

The ferry terminal in Sausalito does not seem crowded. I always have been able to get on.
The ferry to/from Pier 41 is operated by Blue & Gold Fleet. It should be around $14 (paid on the boat). Timetables are on their website, and vary by day.
Not direct, only connecting through the SF ferry building

Very regular and there are two different ferriy services to choose from It's more like a continuous service with little wait time plus you can take your bicycles on board if you've biked over the bridge
