Our Dearest friends - did a great deal /comprehensive research on Retirement Communities, and almost selected "The PL in Monterey" Then, a good friend urged them to consider the impressive Spring Lake Villages in Santa Rosa.. This was the Best Idea ever. While the PL was fancy - ( read $$$) however, there was something missing. They both immediatley loved the SLV layout - the numeous amenities, organizations, Bocce Court, the Wood working, misc Classes, the culture and a long list of other attributes. She immediately 'clicked' and was involved in Drumming Class, the Library, gym...Best decision ever.

Horrible experience with my mother being sent there for rehab. They are a for profit establishment; privately owned. They neglected her after surgery.... 17 days and no stitches removed for a hip operation. No shower for weeks and this definitely was not because she refused a shower. I complained and it always fell on deaf ears . They ignored my requests for a doctor’s appraisal of her condition over and over. I spent 5 hrs a day there with my mom and finally after 4 weeks post surgery Doctor Christie Cambal who was assigned to her came in at 5:30 pm and told her she didn’t look good. NO CARE AT ALL!!! She was left in the bathroom for 45 min even after the emergency button was pushed. There was NEVER any communication! Be very alerted to the fact that this facility ignores your loved ones.

When the Santa Rosa Firestorm hit, my parents were evacuated from Spring Lake Village - which failed miserably at handling the basics of emergency support and communication for their residents. An 86 year-old friend of my parents, who is semi-ambulatory with mild dementia, was taken out of her home at dawn for a non-emergency evacuation - without her inhalers and COPD medication. She was dropped off at a Red Cross shelter with only the clothes on her back and no family notification. Because my parents are residents able to live independently, they had to go to the Red Cross shelter for two nights, before they realized they needed to make their own emergency housing arrangements- and did so. Later, after the evacuation was lifted, Spring Lake Village was not yet open. After being away for 7 days, and no longer under evacuation orders, my parents were not allowed a 5 minute entry into their home to restock on medication and clean clothes. An emergency-specific voice message at Spring Lake Village's main phone number was not implemented for at least 36 hours after residents evacuated. Until then, there was no answer to phone calls, even though the surrounding neighborhood was safe, secure, and NOT under mandatory evacuation. This caused unnecessary worry about the state of the facility for those who tried to call. It took a group Facebook effort among far-flung relatives of evacuees - who didn't know each other previously - to locate the shelters where some individuals had been taken. Episcopal Senior Communities, who owns SLV, eventually set up an emergency help line at their Walnut Creek, CA corporate office. Those providing information were either elderly folks, whose ability to help was limited - or a rude and defensive manager whose help, for my parents, was nonexistent. Much of the information I was given, when I called, turned out to be inaccurate - as has been the sporadically updated info on Spring Lake Village's website. Walnut Creek is too far away to provide accurate information during a major emergency at their facility in Santa Rosa. Moreover, the website was difficult for evacuees to access during an emergency evacuation and power outage with multiple downed cel towers. I am in touch with other SLV family members who share my outrage. I am so frustrated and worried about the well-being of my elderly parents and their community. Spring Lake Village "looks" very nice and commands some of the highest fees in the area - but looks can be deceiving. >>In response to the response below, I will simply say that the man clearly does not know my father, otherwise he would have realized that Dad was being his usual stoic and mildly sarcastic self -complementing that which was actually a 10 day unmitigated disaster. Dad was probably chuckling to himself about the out-of-touch mentality of this self-congratulatory, so-called manager.

We have been visiting dear friends here for close to 10 years... They are happy - have made many friends - enjoy the amenities...great location. When the Santa Rosa fire happened - the logistics of removing all and moving to save locale was well done. The property is well manitained and the residents seem happy, cordial and interesting. Love the Bocce Ball court and the designer.
