This place is cute, their coffee is good, seating is great and the staff are nice Drawback is their food. Which, is very 'New Portland'. Whereas 'Old Portland' was fun, weird and quirky, 'New Portland' is just pretentious as a whole. When it comes to food, 'New Portland' takes sadistic pleasure in taking every little ingredient that could make a a dish delicious and subbing it with the "vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, sugar-free smile-free, taste-free" schtick ultimately resulting in, "here's a puck of barley mixture. Enjoy! That'll be $22 please". And while there's nothing wrong with eating healthy, and it's important to be inclusive of those with allergies, it would be nice to have options for those of us willing to battle it out with our gut biomes in exchange for flavorful food.

You can tell me curdled almond milk is normal all day. I disagree and it still doesn’t make me feel good about wasting money on bad tasting coffee I don’t want to drink.

Even on Alberta St where coffee shops are abundant, this Barista still stands out with their consistently excellent coffee and good customer service. i enjoy coming here to grab a coffee, sit outside to chat with friends or read a book. The decor has an old fashion vibe that emits a sense of warmth that is matched by their friendly staff.

A beautiful array of chocolate colors welcome you into an atmosphere of quiet contemplation. Tiny two people tables fill this space with a long bench table at one corner perfect for the serious coffee hangout. I ordered an almond milk vanilla latte that was the perfect brew and not too sweet that you can't taste the bean, zero bitterness that usually begs for sugar to cover up. I got an hour of solid work done as I shared this space with a handful of other people reading and tapping away on their laptops. So if you need a great place to sit and plunk out emails or in the process of writing your next book? Have I found the place for you. Here it is in it's dark decadent glory! Enjoy your joe.
