I do not understand how you can have men work so hard for a company for so many years. And then they get laid off. How are families supposed to survive. My husband is a very hard worker dedicated to what he loves fixing things. He never called in sick. He never broke or messed up on the Job He never took time off or a vacation in 5 years. He was dedicated to his job. Sad the union did not think so. My husband worked for Hansen Aggregates in Santa Margarita for 5 plus years driving 1 hour to and from work. Then laid of they were slow on production. Then It took your union forever to find him a job. Then it was only for 9 days of work almost making him loose his spot on the call list for union. Then off for a year and then they call him to go work for Papich Construction in Nipomo then work one month and then lay him off again production is slow. Really how is any one supposed to live like this.

As organized labor goes, the Operating Engineers are a well run organization and as far as I am concerned, the best union in Southern California.

Pay them to get work. They suck at it!!! Care more about themselves than their members. Spent $45,000 over the years. Favoritism going on

You can visit OEFI.ORG and find a panel of VSP providers
IUOE gives their proficiency exam every 2 years. The next one will be in 2020. They will begin accepting applications to take the exam at the end of 2019. All you need is ID, SS, and diploma or high school equivalency. Go to www.OETT.net for details. Hope this helps!
They have to be mailed in, or brought in the the office in person. I prefer to mail them in.
Hopefully not for a long time?
They pay a benefits that you have earned to your beneficiary. And a burial fund.
All dispatch halls are different. They all keep an out of work list. There's four lists A, B, C and Apprenticeship.
Look online IUOE apprenticeship training. Must be a Citizen, have a high school degree, pass a math test/general knowledge test. If you're accepted they'll teach you to operate heavy equipment/survey/mining/ inspection...etc.
It's right around $700, once you're dispatched. You're allowed to make it in, I believe, 3 payments.
Do you have any heavy equipment or inspection experience?
Yes
