Beautiful museum. We really enjoyed our tour with Mario. He was very enthusiastic and told us many fun facts about the museum. Highly recommend!

Great place to enjoy the parades. Went there for the first time and it was a nice experience. They are some beautiful status and great pieces of art to see. 👏

Bad impression at first: the museum is closed. All of it. The rooms, the tours, the store - shut down. This is my third capital building and the least inviting. Every door was closed. If it wasn't for the open session and beautiful architecture, I would have been sorely disappointed. I was able to sit upstairs and listen in on the session which was a treat. I felt a measure of restored faith in humanity. They questioned finance on expenditures and voiced their concerns regarding project deadlines. All without trying to win a vote or hidden agenda. I'm not even a resident in this state, but to hear these politicians speaking up on behalf of the citizens was a breath of fresh air. If you have an hour, take the time and listen in. Side note: they have wall display cases for each county. Some are elaborate, some a simple and some are a disaster. It's the capital building - do better.

Amazing architecture of building around the capitol building, very nice gardens. It's a good one day trip to walk around and visit the museum, library. There are many restaurants around and the local coffee shops are worth a try.

Set your GPS for the Capitol garage. It is $10 and is right at the Capitol building and is secure.
In order to enter the Capitol, you do not have to have a valid ID card. However, you will need to enter the building through the north entrance (along L Street) and wear a mask. The Capitol is closed on weekends, and the museum within is closed for the duration. The museum rooms are closed and no guided tours are being given. Self-guided tours can be done with a brochure available at the information desk on the first floor rotunda.
Any season because it is inside! Great history and beautiful architecture! But if you want pictures from the outside... Fall is great!
Yes, with the following limitations: No flash is allowed inside the museum rooms, nor in the Assembly or Senate galleries while they are in session. Also during session, no tripods are allowed in the galleries.
I would take the museum's advice on buying that flag.
Two wheelchairs are available for free rental at the information desk, located in room B-27 in the lower level of the Capitol. You will need to leave your driver's license in order to take a wheelchair, and it will be returned to you once you return the wheelchair. These wheelchairs must be used only inside the building, and the museum does not offer temporary storage for other mobility devices (e.g., a walker) while you use the wheelchair.
The city in which the government meets is called the capital. The building within the capital city where the government meets is called the capitol. Sacramento is the capital of California, but the building in which the legislature and governor work is the Capitol. Capitols, such as California's, often have a dome and a round rotunda below the dome. Think of a capitol as a building with a round rotunda, like an O.
There are tours of the building seven days a week. The first leaves at 9 am, and the last at 4 pm, and at the top of every hour between. They last between 45 minutes and an hour, but you can leave earlier if you need to. Self-guided brochures are also available.
Street parking in addition to one or two large parking structures (entrance from adjoining streets), all which must be paid for. Try scheduling a visit on Sunday when all street parking is free of charge. Have fun!
The building with the capitol-style dome in Auburn is actually a courthouse. One could assume that those statues depict judicial figures from the area.
While the Capitol Building is open to the public from 9a-5p on weekdays (closed on weekends), the Capitol Museum itself is not providing tours and the museum rooms are closed for the duration. WorldStrides leaders are free to tour their own groups through the rest of the Capitol.
Hello, Timothy! While we appreciate your thoughtful answer, we are the California State Capitol Museum. To get your idea to your lawmakers, we would suggest calling the Governor's office at (916) 445-2841 or contacting your local Senator or Assembly Member. If you do not know who your representatives are, you can easily find out at https://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/.
This is the State Capitol Museum within the Capitol, so I don't know the answer to your question. I would suggest contacting your legislators. If you don't know who they are, you can find out at http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/.

According to the 2010 census, California's population was around 37,253,956. The 2019 estimated number was 39,512,223. California awaits the results of the 2020 census. Please visit: https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/CA
If you are referring to who designed the building and the architects who supervised its construction, you should find the following link helpful: https://capitolmuseum.ca.gov/special/californiastatecapitol/capitol-construction/.
The capital of California is the city of Sacramento. Within the city stands the capitol (with an o instead of an a), where the California State Legislature meets.
I refer you to the City of Sacramento's parking website pages, where you should be able to find your answer: https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/Parking-Services/Event-Parking/Bus-Parking http://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/Parking-Services/Lots-and-Garages/Rates.
I would recommend contacting the California Museum for Women, History, and the Arts at (916) 653-7524.
I can't limit myself to three! I would recommend the Assembly and Senate chambers (or just one if you don't have enough time for both), the portraits of our most recent governors on the third floor, the marble mosaic tile and stained glass state seal on the second floor, the first floor rotunda right under the dome, and the murals in the lower level rotunda. Keep in mind that COVID restrictions and building renovations might limit access.
Yes, please! It is free of charge. Our building hours are: Sat 9AM–5PM Sun 9AM–5PM Mon 7:30AM–6PM Tue 7:30AM–6PM Wed 7:30AM–6PM Thu 7:30AM–6PM Frid 7:30AM–6PM.
Yes, there are two eateries and a coffee shop located within the Capitol. You can learn more about them at https://statehouserestaurant.com/. There are none on the grounds, but there are several restaurants surrounding the park.
The tour is Free!! Just sign up when u get there. Tour is about an hr.
According to the website of the City of Sacramento (https://www.cityofsacramento.org/Public-Works/Parking-Services/Lots-and-Garages/Rates), the height clearance of the Capitol Garage at 10th and L streets is 6'-9".
Yes. Guided tours go out on the hour seven days a week, beginning at 9 am. The last tour of the day leaves at 4 pm. Feel free to call ahead to confirm at 916-324-0333.
You can ask another zone, but there is a big room next to the restrooms
Yes you do
What is your question? Are you wondering if famous people visit the Capitol? Yes, sometimes Hollywood celebrities and leaders of the business world will come here to testify before legislative committees.
Probably no, but if you see a grounds keeper in the area, worth asking politely.
The building is officially California's working seat of government for 150 years this year (2019)!
I'd recommend calling the museum office at 916-324-0333 to ask to have one sent to you.

Do you have pay for permission?
It depends on the type of pictures. Personal photography is fine, but commercial photography (for example, a wedding party) does require a permit. If in doubt, you should contact Aly in the Joint Rules office at 916-319-2804.
Entrance is free, and you can grab a self-guided tour brochure, so you can stay as long or as little as your schedule allows. I would recommend staying at least an hour.

Although I have never seen the film, two co-workers who have say the building does appear in a shot of the skyline of Sacramento. Edit: Another co-worker has told me there is an extensive scene involving the main characters that was filmed in our rose garden.
Metered, street parking is available on the streets surrounding the Capitol. However, I'd recommend parking in the garage at the corner of 10th and L streets (entrance on 10th), just north of the Capitol.
There is no fee. Even free tours are offered. They have two parliament halls on display .... Its kind of a whitehouse replica.
Tours leave every hour from 9 am to 4 pm, and last between 45 and 60 minutes. You can leave early if you need to, or take a self-guided tour at your own pace. Maps are available for the self-guided tour. To sign up for the guided tour, visit the Museum Tour Office in room B27 on the lower level of the Capitol.
Construction on the building was begun in 1860 and completed fourteen years later in 1874.
The capital of California is Sacramento.
While the museum does have two wheelchairs available for use (just visit our office in room B27), we do not provide volunteers to push. Is there someone else in your party who can do that?
No
The wonderful thing about the Capital is that it is free. And well worth a visit.
Between 45 minutes to an hour with light traffic.
