Awesomely convenient, sparkling clean and very modern train cars. The schedule has lots of options throughout the day. Wish it had a direct connection to the BART which would make it even more convenient being able to connect directly to regional AMTRACK lines.

You can see beautiful scenery and even have a glass of wine or beer. Fun experience 🥰

I needed to get back to Santa Rosa from San Francisco without a car, which seemed difficult and long but riding the ferry and Smart train was so easy, clean and safe! Will definitely do it again.

A great ride from SR North to San Rafael, it felt good and I had a great new view on the scenery. On the way back the horn was blown constantly and so loudly that it almost drove me nuts. I think they sounded the horn around 50 times within an hour. I didn't notice this or the constant announcing of "arriving/departing" at each station on the way to San Rafael but on the way back it made the experience not worth it. I did sit on opposite ends each trip so maybe I ended up on the horn end on the way back (North End of Train). So for a solo trip make sure you have ear buds, if you plan on talking on the train with a friend, reconsider that idea.

An engineer and a conductors are REQUIRED by Federal law. The conductor on a normal railroad I'd an operating employee...primary job is not to collect gates and Pat customers on the head, but the operational safety of the train. A dedicated fare collector/enforcer would not take the place of a conductor who is trained in the operation, rules and regulations of getting the train over the railroad safely.
Not directly, must use either larkspur ferry connect via shuttle bus from San Rafael transit center or 40 bus from same to del Norte Bart 😀
From the SMART Code of Conduct: Service Animals & Pets: Service animals are animals that are individually trained to perform tasks for people with disabilities. Service animals may travel on vehicles, subject to the following conditions: Must remain on a leash or harnessed except when performing work or tasks where such tethering would interfere with the animal’s ability to perform. Must remain under the owner’s control and not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others. Must remain in a down or sit position. Pets: Small pets allowed only in proper enclosed pet carriers. The carrier must be on the floor/lap and not on a seat.
Please check their website for the schedule. I don't have a schedule with me.
Here is their website. It has the schedule or you might need to call them. https://www.sonomamarintrain.org/
You may want to Google that or call SMART for that information.
Parking hours are limited. No long term parking. Suggest calling a taxi or Uber type of service or taking the city bus to S F.
There are several buses that connects passengers to Larkspur Ferry Terminal from the San Rafael Transit center, which is next to the San Rafael SMART Station.
Right now the closest you can get is the San Rafael transit center and pick up a connector shuttle from there. The SMART extension to the ferry will be operational hopefully by the end of the year.
https://sonomamarintrain.org/fares No, it's not the same zone.
Check schedule online...I believe it's different weekend vs weekdays...
No. Goes from Santa Rosa to San Rafael.
Petaluma Downtown
Multiple trains and times, just not as frequently 😁
Zone fares may apply, check your start and stop locations, or better still get a clipper card
Paid parking is available at the Sonoma County Airport, Rohnert Park, Petaluma Downtown, Novato San Marin, and Novato Hamilton stations.
No, airporter or catch airport bus from San Rafael transit center, I think
From Petaluma, about $5.00
There is currently only 1 stop for Petaluma, check samart Train web site
There are city buses, but the walk is all flat.
Yes, just make sure fits either over head, limited space like an air plane or fits beside i in
Outside alcohol is not allowed, but you can purchase wine and beer on the train.
About an hour.
There are several restaurants, antique stores, local shops, art galleries, a museum, a shopping mall, bicycle shops, and book stores.
Ok you need to take the larkspur ferry to get to the embarcadero Bart, then Bart to 12th Bart station, should be about 10 blocks or catch the ac bus going down Broadway, should be able to see JL past the freeway, Nimitz, 880 😀
Just for safety or maybe a glitch
Only for horn honkers!
