I went there for highlights. The student who worked on my hair did not understand english well and I am not sure if she finally understood what I really wanted. Besides, the instructors do not supervise the student to make sure they are doing the right thing. They bleached my hair and finally gave me an orange based ugly hair color and the day after that I went there to fix it, it finally turned out to be a very dark brownish color!!! So if you are going there with the hope that students are professional enough or the instructors are there whole time, don’t do that! Spend more money and go to a good hair-salon. At least, you will know that they will not damage your hair.

First, shampooed and conditioned my hair but massaged the conditioner into my roots and scalp? I was very strict that I wanted a trim straight across with no layers (my hair is very healthy I don't do anything to it), and he cut off 3+ inches because it's what "he thought was right." Looking at my hair the next day, it is extremely uneven and choppy despite the instructors checking it? The instructors knew that he cut more off than I wanted but never apologized or said anything. Throughout the entire process he was telling me how women were meant to stay home and how because he was a male in a female's profession that he would easily dominate over them, which is not a smart way to speak to your clients when most of them are women? I've had good haircuts here before but this one is beyond awful and I don't know how to fix my hair without cutting even more off. Especially sad because I was growing my hair out for an event but that is beside the point. Update: they contacted me and were super kind willing to fix what went wrong to the best of their abilities!

For the price I paid ($18 for haircut with a student) I will give 4 stars. It was my first time ever coming to an academy and have the haircut by a student but I would come back again for sure. There was a teacher checking on the student from the beginning to the end so it wasn't too bad. My stylist was a student who is still learning so she wasn't professional so my expectation was pretty low. That's why I am giving 4 stars. However I made an appointment for 1p and someone screwed up and someone I did not make an apptmt with came at 1:30p and I had to ask for who I made an apptmt with cuz she didn't look like she has been there long enough..and I was right. She had a client right next to me and she was struggling.. if you don't know who to see then you have to take a risk.

I can do hair better than this place. Bought a Groupon deal for 2 blowouts. The ladies at the front desk were nice and helpful. My stylist was a senior student who was scheduled to graduate in a few weeks, so I thought she would be pretty good, unfortunately, that proves to be completely wrong. She was really rough when shampooing and conditioning my hair, and the roughness continued throughout the blowout process. She was pulling my hair constantly which is quite painful, as she curled and blow dried my hair. My hair was definitely not curled right as in some sections she curled all the way to the tip, but not in other sections. The whole process took 1.5hours and the end result was rather disappointing, in fact I could have done a better job myself at home. The place is also really pricey for what you get. I have gotten a professional blowout for $15, which is not that much more than this place.

Yes

I have been calling for days. Do you have walk ins or do you need an appointment? What days are the students there for blow drys. I have been going to Toni and Guys for 5 years in Santa Monica and Fairfax. How come no one answers the phone here?

They are closed Sunday and Monday. They are so busy Thursday and friday that it's best to book an appt. Saturdays are walk in only..but you have to get there around 8:30 and wait in line outside the salon. Apts on sat depend on how many students showed up that day. And yes, calling them can be difficult. Make sure to press 2 and wait a few min. They often have issues with their call system. You can make apts online, though.
