This place has horrible hours and lazy employees. For people like myself that typically work until 6:30-7:00p each night, them closing at 3:50p is annoying, especially when that makes Saturday the only day many of us can use without wasting our entire lunch breaks on it. Then, they close the Saturdays before and after holidays for literally no reason, which means a lot of us end up with overflowing bins because we lose our one day to make a drop off. Stop taking Saturdays off as “holiday” time. Just make it a half day. It's not like the employees actually do anything except sit inside the trailer watching TV on their phones so just give them holiday pay and stop inconveniencing everyone else.

I have changed my review because I believe this place has made some positive changes in the past few months---in staffing and in daily operations. You are much appreciated, keep up the good work!!

Wonderful opportunity for making a difference for our planet. Bins clearly marked. Staff is there to answer questions. Note however that they close gates at 4pm Tuesday through Friday and 3pm Saturday. Closed Mondays. Later hours would bring five stars.

No. Freon containing appliances (ACs, refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers) can be recycled at Midwest Recycling Center (816-479-2949, mrcrecycling.net) or at the Olathe Transfer Station (913-971-5175, olatheks.org)
Surplus Exchange in the West Bottoms takes electronics. There’s a fee for printers, CRT monitors, and some other large electronics. Go to surplusexchange.org for address, hours, and other information.
Yes , ask attendant they will direct you to the right storage area for moving boxes .
Johnson County Environmental operates the HHW site for county residents. You can make an appointment by visiting https://hhwscheduler.jocogov.org/ or by calling 913-715-6907.
I doubt it, but there should be someone there who would know for sure.
No you do not. The Overland Park center is open to all.
Overland Park will sponsor our next Recycling Extravaganza where you could recycle this printer (and lots of other electronics!) on Sat., Sept. 7 on the campus of Black & Veatch.
Yes , break boxes down, flat break out corners . take packing left overs . Plastic, Styrofoam- we do not take
No, Overland Park's recycling center does not accept motor oil. Most of the oil change businesses are kind enough to take used oil from individuals for recycling.
Yes, these would need to be separated. The plastics (e.g. 1s, 2, etc.) all go together, aluminum & steel cans go together, and glass doesn't need to be separated by color. Thanks for recycling!
I think they would take them.
No, the recycling center does not accept batteries. I suggest you take them to someplace that accepts batteries for recycling such as Batteries Plus.
Yes. They have a black dumpster off to the side for scrap metal.
RK Speak with Austin at the center. He should be able to help you get the paper you want.

Check the city website.
You could call a grocery store and see if they will take it, because they are able to sell that cardboard.
Yes. Staples & paper clips are fine.
They don't recycle gas at the recycle center
Fire extinguishers are explosion hazards and must be empty with the valve completely removed such that the tank is open to the atmosphere. Tanks for flammable products such as propane (e.g gas grill tanks, Coleman gas tanks) are not acceptable under any circumstances at the Overland Park recycling center.
If you can get out of your front door then you can walk into the container to wedge it into the group of cardboard.
A washing machine? Yes, the center could take that in the scrap metal container.
If they aren't covered in flammable grease then they can be thrown in the scrap metal dumpster.
And there is a knife that you can use to cut up there
I don't know of anywhere to recycle any styrofoam products. Supposedly the shipping store in the shopping center at Antioch and 127th will take them.
The next Recycling Extravaganza will be held from 8 - 2 on Sat., Sept. 7 on the campus of Black & Veatch at 115th and Lamar.

No, but do take cans
No, if in shape might check with ReStore locations. They may take it.
Scrap metal company doesn't want them, because they could still have fuel and kill workers. Coleman has some instructions on how to burn off the extra that read online.
If it's plastic they take it. If it's chemicals or liquid you will have to take it to Johnson county hazardous waste. If it is plastic wrap or a bag you have to throw them away.
Donate plastic hangers to Goodwill or Savers.
No, that has to go to Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste
If it is good shape you could possibly take it to Restore. If not, RecycleSpot.org is your best bet or call a carpet place and see if they know of someone who picks it up, I am thinking there, but don't recall their name.
Yes, cardboard, paperboard, moving boxes and newsprint packing paper.
Large item pick-up items only. It's the end of the line of those recycled materials.
You dont need to take off the lids and rings. There is no fee
They do not pay for cans. The center is a recycling center only, not a buy back center.
Wood is not accepted at this center.
Unfortunately we no longer accept electronics. The City of OP hosts a recycling event twice a year where electronics and many other non-traditional materials are accepted. The next date is Saturday, October 27th from 8AM to 2PM at Black and Veatch on Lamar Ave. Hope this helps!

No, you can Try Surplus Exchange (an E recycler) Best Buy, Staples, Lowe's, or Microcenter.
If you can lift into the metal bin. They do. If you dump it and run they will call the police on you.
You can try Habitat for Humanity/Restore
Call planning & development & ask for recycling information . I do not think we have A place that takes corks any longer .
The drop off center does not accept electronics. The city will sponsor their next Recycling Extravaganza on Sat., Oct. 27 on the campus of Black & Veatch and your TV could be recycled there.
Unfortunately they do not accept any electronics. You can try places like Best Buy, Staples, Lowes, or Micro Center.
No. The center does not accept any type of yard waste. Suburban has a yardwaste facility located at 201 W 139th St.

No

No. The recycling center does not accept electronics. The next Recycling Extravaganza where you can recycle such items will be held on Sat., Oct. 27.
No. Also, I believe they have cameras. So, if you drop it off and run you could end up with a ticket in the mail, because their sign says no dumping. I have seen volunteers assist people instead of checking and make sure the bins are up to the recycling center code.
Buy mealworms and feed it to them. Scientists have found out that mealworms can digest Styrofoam. Then roast the beetles in the oven and leave them out for insect eating birds. Mealworms ARE NOT NATIVE, so you have to kill them if you want to feed them to wildlife. We don't need an easier invasive food source for the invading fire ants headed North from Oklahoma.
Yes, if it's rubbermaid or similar. I have seen them in the plastic bin.
I recommend Craigslist, because a few gardeners use them in shaded areas that are too dry to grow moss in order to keep the dust down during hard winds.
