My hand was crushed in a grocery store conveyor belt about two years ago. I got an attorney to represent me and after feeling confident in this group and their abilities, I began to give up faith when I could never reach anyone to discuss my case. Hi Jakob. You ask a great question. Happy New Year to you! In order to find out if a homeowner has insurance in the event of a dog bite, you would need a copy of their homeowners insurance policy. Unfortunately, there is really no way to force the homeowner to turn over their insurance policy unless a lawsuit is filed. However, you can attempt to nicely ask the homeowner for a copy of their insurance policy, but more likely than not, the homeowner will not just hand over the insurance policy, especially if they are in touch with any kind of legal counsel. We usually send a letter to the homeowner letting them know we represent the injured victim and that we need a copy of their homeowners policy. Coming from a law firm, most homeowners comply. However, if that does not work, we have not choice but to file a lawsuit against the homeowner and ask for a copy of the insurance policy during litigation. They have no choice but to turn it over. There are a few ways in which you can still recover monetary damages after an automobile accident even if the at-fault party did not have car insurance. Here are a few: (1) if you carry car insurance, your insurance policy may have a UM/UIM provision which allows you to get reimbursed for your bodily injuries from your own insurance carrier. (2) If the person who hit you was working for a company at the time of the accident, and (3) if the driver of the vehicle is different than the owner of the vehicle, and the vehicle owner has his/her own insurance policy.
