0 stars if I could statewide. IF YOUR DISABLED OR RETIRED STAY AWAY FROM NEBR, WORST STATE TO LIVE IN. Im disabled and have had food accessibility and insecurity issues my entire life. Dropped from snap with no access to food due to cola increase with my low SS. Created a worsening housing crisis as well. Im not able to find housing for myself and face homelessness everyday now. DHS DOES NOT ADJUST PROPERLY FOR COST OF LIVING OR INFLATION ESPECIALLY FOR THE MOST VULNERABLE AND DISABLED AND CONTINUE TO DROP DISABLED AND RETIRED FROM ALL PROGRAMS. Nebr DHS is rude no matter where you go here, hang up on you, Told im not welcome in nebr, never recertify correctly, cause extreme distress and further issues to my disabilities and health. DHS told me im not allowed to shop at stores and im only allowed a food bank that im unable to find, access or use. Medicaid is a nightmare every recert as they have done it wrong every year leaving everything worse. Cant even have $1 if on medicaid or snap, so starving. Both medicaid and snap hold your income against you 2 times. Any bit left in an account from this months payment to get you thru the month is held against you on top of it being part of this months payment held against you for both snap and medicaid. Im skipping 10-14 days a month eating at this point due to being dumped on and harassed my entire life by NE DHS. My health and disabilities are worsening every day.

if you are unfortunate enough to have to use DHHS for any of your services, i apologize. our caseworker is incompetent - i’m convinced they find people on the street, give them a 5 minute rundown of their services and throw them into the job like that. most of these workers are fresh out of college and don’t know what they’re doing. they only help you when it’s convenient for them, or when things go the way they want. probably the most un-American government program that i’ve ever seen. not only do they treat you like second class citizens (especially if you are at or below the poverty line), but it’s dehumanizing in general having to work with them. if you can find other resources, go through them. the 1.7 star rating on DHHS should be more than enough to deter you.

Incompetence....They are never consistent. You never get a straight answer. The person on the other end of the line, acts like they are the ones giving you money. They treat you like a second class citizen. They are rude. They don't care. None of the departments work together. They haven't a clue what the other one is doing. ADC/State takes your child support..no matter how much you get, they keep it if you're on ADC. They don't give you the remaining balance. They don't tell you when you sign the ADC contract that you forfeit all child support, no matter how much is paid. I have never witnessed a more slothful institution. No oversight. When you do have proof of bad behavior or mistreatment, they pass it off and selective hearing sets in. THIS: The United States Department of Health and Human Services, is a cabinet-level executive branch department of the U.S. federal government created to protect the health of all Americans and providing essential human services. Its motto is "Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America.... YOU HAVE A 1.7 RATING AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. WHY ?

The staff that answers the phone it are nice and friendly but that's as far as it goes. Every year recertifying is a nightmare that you don't want to face. They don't communicate with each other or don't read their computer notes and always stop your Medicaid for not qualifying for at least 2 to 3 months. Finally after many phone calls and much more paperwork they finally realized that you do qualify. But the whole time that you were under not qualify status they were taking out your Medicare from your social security which leaves you in a terrible bind. Are most people on a tight budget just leads to buying money and paying interest until they finally pay you back and you have to play catch up again. They ask you every year if you want to be recertified every 5 years doesn't matter what your answer is you're still going to get certified every year it's just seems like a waste of redundant breath.

Yes. This happened to me when I broke my ankle. I called and applied for temporary benefits. With no/very little income I received EBT (food assistance) and utility assistance for 3 months.
