Spectacular views during lunch at the carriage house. Lovely mansion, impecably maintained. Beautiful gardens with backdrop of Lake Winnipesaukee and the mountains around Gunstock. Multiple, relatively easy trails throughout the property. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly.

Very nice home. House and grounds tour is self guided, but there are many staff to answer questions and offer information. Recommend the basement tour!

The house was interesting to see and the history behind it was fascinating. The staff was extremely friendly and Gretchen was very helpful and informative on the gardens. The views are spectacular and would be absolutely breathtaking in the fall. They have a lot more on the property than just the house. There are 30 miles of hiking trails also. I didn't get to do any of them this visit though. There is also a pond where you can feed the ducks and rainbow trout.

Beautiful place. We visited it years ago but now it's even better. My pictures don't do it justice. It's a really beautiful place. When we went the first time they showed us where the water is that they bottled. You no longer can see this. It is well worth your trip to go here.

Yes
Plus, it's very close to some of ur favorite friends!
You drive up to the carriage house. A nice windy road through the woods with some pull offs to walk to waterfalls. From the carriage house you can either take tge trolley or walk up to the mansion.
Hi Karen, You can visit us online here https://www.castleintheclouds.org/hours-admission/ to view our current admission rates and discounts. Unfortunately, Riding in the Clouds is no longer offered.
There aren't many. There aren't any chain hotels in the area reallly. Most are suite type places that are a little pricey. I stayed about 45 minutes away at a comfort in for 89 a night. Just have to do a search in the area.
Yes
Hi Dawn, dogs are allowed on the trails surrounding our property including Shannon Pond and the meadow; however, animals are not allowed in our historic buildings or on the trolley. As always this does not apply to service dogs as they are able to go anywhere on site.
Our last day of normal operation is October 24. We do have Christmas at the Castle in November. Tickets for that will be available soon, please check our website for more updates.
Hi Nancy, Noel is correct, as long as the dog is on a leash, they are welcome to join you on a hike!
Yes, dogs are allowed on our grounds (with a leash) and we sell dog treats in our gift shop! However, dogs are not allowed in any of our buildings, on our trolley, or on the Castle lawn.
If you buy an admission ticket for one of our tours you can go into the Carriage House. If not, we encourage you to walk behind the Carriage House for the view instead.
Hi Sandra, We're sorry but we don't have any lodging on our property. We hope you'll stop by for a tour, though!
Yes. Our last day is the 25th.
Hi Debbera, Pets are not allowed in any of our buildings or on the Castle Lawns.
If you'd like to make a donation to the castle, I would contact them directly. If you'd like to donate to the hiking trails etc, I would contact LRCT (lakes region conservation trust). Either way, thank you for thinking about donating. This place holds a special place in my heart
Yes they definitely still have horseback riding..
Access road gives you partial access and the paid road is to get into the "castle"
It is as much as it can be. There are lots of stairs inside that can't really be avoided if you want to see the castle so, you need to be able to do stairs (they do have handrails). The staff was very friendly and helpful about allowing me to go downstairs using the easier (carpeted) stairs after I toured the upstairs rooms. And I was able to get around pretty easily using my cane/walking stick. It can't be done with a wheelchair,. Worth the effort, though.
It can be as long or as short as you want it to be. It is self guided they just give you some information when you arrive at the castle and then you are free to explore as you like. They also give you the option to walk up to the castle or they provide a free shuttle bus.
One hour and fourty eight minutes according to Google maps.
Pets are allowed on the grounds around the castle, but not in the castle, or in the trolley or the actual grounds that touch the castle
There is water on the Castle property, but not for swimming. The surrounding area is spotted with lakes and numerous options for swimming, but I would recommend going to White Lake State Park, for a good nearby public swimming option. It's about 20 minutes away.
No, it's closed for the season.
They are open now for the Christmas events! I would call and listen to thier automated hours recording
Both floors of the carriage house are accessible. The main floor of the mansion is accessible and there are interpretive materials available that provide information on the second floor for those who cannot climb the stairs.
Closed for the season, but they do lovely holiday decorations for a short period in December
No, you'll want to sit outside where you can enjoy the view.
In the Carriage house right under the Castle is restaurant. I'm not sure if they are open during the winter, but for sure through tourist season. (it might be open for snowmobilers - call them to make sure)
There is an admission fee to tour the mansion, or you can pay just to drive up the access road and enjoy the grounds. It's a beautiful drive, but costs almost as much as access with full admission for 2 included. However, there is FREE access to the property if you don't wish to do the tour or use the scenic driveway access road. The parking area at the top of the property can be accessed from a public road, for free. So you can still get to the cafe or ice cream stand, enjoy the pond, walk the grounds outside the mansion and miles of hiking trails. Worth doing if you've toured the mansion before. I believe the incorrect gps directions they tell you to ignore on their website is the back (free) entry to the parking lot, which passes the stables and bottling plant.
