Been trying to get into the shelter for 2 weeks now. Its always full they said, or they dont return phone calls. Kinda frustrating since its getting cold out and im forced to sleep outside. Also the showers are shut off at 330 but I work till 430 would be nice if they granted showers for people who work. Food is ok but its the same slop every other day and they give mediocre servings.

HI Julie, To volunteer, children age 12 & 13 need to come with a parent. Children age 14 and older can come by themselves to volunteer, especially if volunteer hours are part of their high school curriculum. Thanks for asking!

Good morning Vangie Collins to answer your question about what happens to the homeless on New year's? The Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter does have a shelter that takes individuals and families dailing 211 the staff operating that call line can get a person connected to the local shelters themselves, there is a registration process... I dont believe there are any frees however, I do know this shelter will not take you in if you are intoxicated or high on drugs because its a family shelter as well! There are other places to go. Also, i do know your local fire departments and police department can and will advocate to help a person to a warm safe place in these below freezing temps! Some agencies dont want to but under legal mandates they cannot turn a person away especially a family with children onto the streets or if a family is found they cannot allow that family or individual to stay sleeping in freezing weather. That is s public safety issue there is money 4 hotels
I am a client and have number therealready..aThere were no turkey food baskets...I was there erscheduled day for boxes... Only got 1/2 box that month. Wife and I ran out of food that month. We are both disabled on SS ONLY, and our SS checks are over the NH limit on Food Stamps. My wife has TBI and doesn't understand this... I don't either.
