We had a great experience with Kinsey Houseboats. Two of us rented boat #4. While the boat was a little time worn, everything functioned well. We tied up at two different island campsites over four days. Our boat was easy to maneuver and gently pulling up to shore to tie our mooring ropes was no problem. The staff at the base were easy going and friendly. I have no complaints whatsoever. We are already planning on returning here next year!

We rented a 36' for 4 nights in July. The friendly Owners had the boat all set up when we arrived. We loaded our gear and received a quick tutorial on operating a houseboat. The boats are fairly old, but are well maintained. New motors, toilet and generator etc. The lights and water pump run off of 12V batteries, which are recharged when the boat is moving. The refrigerator runs off of propane. Everything on board worked well. We camped on 3 islands and one shore campsite. All of the campsites were clean and had fire rings. Some had firewood. Also, bonus in early July with wild blueberries at the campsites. The lake is 25 miles long, so lots to see. We didn't make it all the way across in our 4 nights. We tried fishing, but only caught a few northerns. You definitely need a secondary boat if you want to seriously fish. The beds were comfy and we slept well. We would definitely do this again with Kinsey Houseboats.

Murray and Corina were great. The service was very good. We were stuck once (something difficult to avoid on this lake), and Dennis was dispatched quickly. Yes the boat we rent was a little old but everything worked well with no hassle, and did not affect our experience a bit. One additional bonus: the path out of the boat house to the main lake is itself an 'eye-candy' for the natural beauty and wildlife lovers. We drove the boat one evening out, and saw the most gorgeous evening glow with glass-smooth lake. When you are there, make sure to also check out the float plane run by Van Air. My wife and I had a blast with an aerial tour of Boundary Waters. A must see! (When we returned, Dennis had turned our boat around, gassed up everything etc .. such a gentle man!) I would definitely rent from Kinsey again.
