This campground is close for 2022. Spoke to a Ranger and apparently "It's been closed for the last 3-4 years." But then some rangers also said they are not sure when it will open without saying its been closed for 4 years. And the other Ranger just told us its close because it is now a parking lot for everyone visiting Avalanche Lake. It is not stated on Recreation.gov and NPS.gov that this campground is close. Now we travelled from Alberta, Canada for what we hoped to get a FCFS campsite. But it was not in service. Not all rangers know either the facts so thats frustrating. With all the good reviews of this campground we were really looking forward to staying here and its a shame they've used it now as a parking lot. Even parking on the campground was a mess, wasted campground for sure if they keep it as is.

We park there to unload for the hike up the Going to the Sun. Very crowded unless you get there early.

This campground is nice and clean. The spots are pretty close together so you will be friendly with your neighbors. The campground has flush toilets and running water but I didnt see any showers and it clearly states in the rules that you cannot use any outside showers so I guess unless you have an RV you have to go out of the park to shower. There are fire pits but the cooking grates have been cut off of all of them so come prepared with something to put over your fire pit to cook on or a cook stove. Sure I could complain about some of the down sides but your in Glacier freaking national park, Its beautiful and I was happy to get to camp inside the park. There is a nice hike to avalanche lake right out of the campground. Definitely will return.

Avalanche Campground is our favorite Glacier National Park west side campground in the main area of the park. Avalanche is large with 87 sites but still fills up early. No reservations make for a little scramble and site stalking in the mornings - we arrived on a Friday morning in July at 8:30 am and found a site, #A16, but it filled up within the hour! Our site was a nice pull through site which gave us room to drop the camper and drive around the park. This location in the park is a great basecamp for a drive over the Going to the Sun Road and the trailhead to Avalanche Lake is right at the campground and is a lovely hike. Flush Toilets, Running Water, Fire Rings, and Picnic Tables.

No, IT's fcfs!
No hookups.
I don't think Glacier park allows dogs at all but you should check with the park first
