This was my first time visiting Cockaponset in all the years I’ve lived in the area. I just hiked a couple of miles and the trails are great but I was swatting away cow flies the entire time which ruined an otherwise good hike. I will come back in the fall and it will be better.

Greatly enjoy taking walks here after work. Looking forward to more biking and hiking in the future

This is a great hidden trail. Lots of wild life and floura to see and explore. The trails are thin and over grown in some places, but if you want to feel out in the woods and far from it all this is the perfect place. My daughters were able to walk it with no problem and they enjoyed all the beautiful flowers and fungi growing all over.

This place is so much fun to go 4 wheelin. Muddy and bumpy trails and open areas with man made horseshoes and hills. Stay on the trails and clean up your mess or they'll close this place down for us offroaders which are hard to find in CT

Yes
Yes, however, sometimes it is closed. A park ranger told me this is due to bacteria levels in the water.
Yes you can according to the DEEP website & the Cockaponset State Forest website.
Forest is open dawn to dusk.
There is a nice entrance to Pattaconk Recreation Area off of Cedar Lake Rd which is a bit up route 148 in Chester.
