This place is a real gem. Took me back to my childhood days of learning to type in school. Owner is very knowledgeable and helped me pick out a beautiful machine that I brought back to Colorado.

I saw their page on Facebook while researching antique typewriter restoration. I messaged to inquire if they could identify a typewriter I had recently acquired. Said they would get back with me when they got to the shop. Identified the typewriter correctly but that's the last I heard from them. I advise I was very interested in having my typewriter restored, but never got a response. Don't to much care about apologies on review sites to make themselves look better after ignoring me. Especially with the economy the way it is I would figure they would want a chance to get some business. Someone else will now get that business.

The rare art of customer service cohabitates with the rare art of typewriter repair in this shop. The service here was fast, effective, and informative. I brought in a 1937 Underwood portable with a few issues that I could not figure out. The fellas at Berkeley Typewriter took the machine in and had it working perfectly in only two days. Also, they showed me all sorts of other typewriters and parts in the shop, helping me learn more about these beautiful devices. They also have ribbon for sale that far surpasses the quality of the cheap stuff you can get online - plus they'll make sure it actually fits your machine so you don't get jammed up when you try to write. I will 100% be back with any future typewriter needs! Thank you!

I've been into Berkeley Type writer twice so far. The first was about two years ago when I was first intrigued by typewriters. They had some really cool machines in their shop, but unfortunately at the time I was living off of a college budget and couldn't afford to buy one. The owner, Joe, was very kind and informative when it came to describing the merchandise he had out on the floor, even though he probably knew my friend and I were there just to look. The other week I inherited a typewriter from my parents' attic and the thought crossed my mind to have it repaired (the task seemed far too time consuming and intricate for me to handle). I went over to Berkeley Typewriter, had a pleasant conversation with Joe, and dropped off my new found typewriter for repairs. While I didn't stay for long to chat with Joe, I trust his professionalism and his many years of experience (30?). It's a great shop, with a long history, and good people (I've only seen Joe working the store front, so maybe person?). Anyhow, If you need anything typewriter, this is the place to go! Update: I got my typewriter back from them way earlier than I expected! great place, great people! Thanks Caesar and Joe!
